hi all, after 100 plus cars and bikes I'm about to buy my first Land Rover (excited) A bit of advice required, I'm wanting to do some green laneing light off roading to start with then move up to standedge edge in a few years which I've done on enduro bike, I have left a small deposit on an 86 defender 90, it's got all the toys on it and off road ready but it's a 2.5 Ltr petrol. Should I avoid or continue with purchase, it's solid with no bulkhead or chassis corrosion???

Do you have any pics / more details / price? Hard to tell from the info you've posted really whether its worth avoiding or not. If you've found a defender that age with no corrosion i'm a) impressed and b) wondering what work has been done to it in the past and whether its been done properly!!

The petrol engine certainly wont be cheap to run - but if its only for occaisional use and not a day to day car then maybe you can live with that?

Certainly a long list of work, and looks like someone who knew what they were doing (or at least knew what they were talking about!)...

Its clearly been significantly modded for off road work, without looking like an off road toy. There's clearly a little bit of bodywork damage, but on the plus side they haven't covered the bottoms of doors etc with chequerplate which is always a good sign.
 
That's a good looking landy with its original petrol engine. It's a genuine early 90. I'd suggest keeping the vehicle original. Those engines are getting rarer. Not as torquey as a diesel but capable nonetheless unless you intend to do extreme stuff. I'd recommend holding onto the engine if you do replace it. Enjoy.

Seeing as it broke down on way back from collecting it, it will be replaced, got a 300 tdi lined up but i will hang on to the petrol
