Howdy! Am new to this forum malarky so please bear with me. Having a problem priming my 90td. Fitted a replacement engine yesterday with no probs but cannot seem to prime. Only have Haynes manual and it's useless. Have ensured lift pump is off cam, but pumping does not seem to suck fuel through. What to do?

I would remove the pipe off the lift pump that comes from the tank, firstly i would blow back to the tank to make sure that its not blocked, then suck the fuel back through.

Have blown through pipe and sucked fuel through. It flows well. Thought maybe i'd got pipes wrong way round on lift pump as i didn't label them when removed, but have tried both ways! Just to confirm pipe from tank with elbow bend is fitted to union towards front of engine. Is this correct?
Thanks for advice so far.

Hi matey just been looking at a manual I've got on the pc, the picture is a bit grainy but it does look like the feed pipe is at the front of the pump. Have you tried cracking open number 1 injector to let the air out? Or what about the bleed nut on top of the fuel filter? Again undo that and give it some more pumps you should get diesel weep out of the top. Also does the filter have fuel in it? Sorry if you've been over these things and don't mean to teach you how to suck eggs, but they've all worked for me one time or another.
good luck anyhow

I would take all the pipes off the lift, pump it and stick your finger over the pipes, you will know when you have the right one. Or stick some pipe over each side and stick it in a jug of fuel.
