Hi Everyone.

Got a new Disco 2 and starting to struggle with it. Both wheelbearings are shot, axel seal, the steering rod ball joints need replaced and some gaskets need replaced too....
Done the rocker cover gasket, and axel seal but now I am having problems with the wheel bub/ABS sensor. So replaced the wheel hub and spliced in the new sensor.
Problem now is that when driving straight. There's a large binding noise with lot of resistance almost like someone is holding the hand brake on and off.

Further to the above ... somehow I managed to sheer the top two wheel hub bolts so not sure if its just binding etc from the loose wheel hub, but looking at it and pulling etc its solid !


Anyone have any thoughts or advise ?

I really dont want to but will need to take it to the garage if I cant get it fixed for next week :(

So did you replace the sheered off bolts or not?
May sound like a daft question, but you never know!
And if you didn't the wheel could be flexing and binding on the brake pads on and off.
Try jacking the wheels up and turning them by hand. but be aware this isn't the same as the wheeels having to turn and steer with 2.1 tonnes resting on them.

Yeah agreed. was a bit fed up so packed up after that, was getting late.
I have the problem however of how to remove the sheered bolts from the wheel hub. or is it new hub ? :( lol

No noise, as there isn't the vehicle's weight on it, don't mean that much but it is at least slightly reassuring.
If you put pics up of how /where the bolts sheared off we'd be able to help you more, but as with most sheared bolts there are tried and tested methods, depending on tools you have.
But while waiting you could do worse than spray it with WD40 or a mix of acetone and ATF.
Here is a link to how to get them out how to get new ones in etc.
 
If the ABS is working you would feel it coming in under your brake pedal, if the traction control is working you'd see the light come on on the dash as well as hearing the funny noise it makes. But there is a chance that the hub may be sending a dodgy signal to the system and it could be having one or the other effect. If it was really a problem all the 3 amigos would come up on the dash and stay on.

+1 ^^^ just confirm that you see all the ABS warning lights for few seconds after you turn ignition on(ABS, HDC, TC), especially the TC... if you see them all and they go out the problem is not with TC unless you see it flickering while the symptom occurs

Yeah sadly no TC light or 3 amigos so ... problem probbly isnt down to the ABS/ Traction....

Might try take the hub off and see where I get to putting the other side hub on :(

Is it possible the abs is kicking in and holding the vehicle because of a faulty wheel sensor. More knowledgeable people than me will know better.
this is what I thought but no TC light etc so ... not sure what it is thats binding etc :/
