Hi, After having some problems with the old battery running down I decided to shoehorn in the biggest battery I could find. Now as soon as I connect the earth lead the alarm goes off. The key won't work and I can't get the key to resync. The car will start ok but the suspension inactive message is on despite twirling the wheel about from lock to lock and the steering wheel is very heavy to turn. I've got an eas kicker but it won't reset the fault, just constantly flashing as if it is unable to communicate. Is there a fuse or relay I can pull to stop the alarm, before I loose patience and cut the wire. Any help greatly appreciated.

EAS Kicker isn't available for the L322 I thought - atleast it isn't listed on the BBS website!

Turn steering lock to lock then bak to centre - if that doesn't do it - time for Diagnostics...

The EAS system goes out if there is an ABS issue too....so could be a dodgy ABS sensor (mine was)

Yes it is an L322 and you can get an eas reset tool from Mr Storey, used it a couple of times no problem. Can't get this damn alarm to stop. Missus not pleased.

If you disconnected the battery not following the set procedure that may cause what you have. You need to read your hand book. If it's a BBUS unit it should stop if you press the fob.

Ooooh...you have the RSW EAS & ABS Activate unit...

This unit can read faults and stores them on the unit...you then plug this in using the USB cable and it gives a file which you can open with what the faults are...

Have you read this file to see what the recurring fault is??

As for the alarm, not sure, the Sounder is battery backed up so even if you did pull a fuse it will continue to sound and also the fuse could disable a further system preventing the car from starting...after all, if it was that easy to disable an alarm, it would be pointless having it!

If you are able to start the car, this would indicate the key and the EWS unit are synchronised you just need to sync the key to the locks...how you do this I don't know as I have never had to do it and I have had my battery off a few times previously.

Only thing I had to do was put the key in the ignition, press the lock then unlock buttons and this seemed to do the trick, although I have never seen this procedure or anyother written down!

There is an initialisation process for syncing keys in RAVE but this requires a working key....might be worth trying in anycase!

I know you don't think this is associated but I had the same problem I think you have a water in the sat nav unit unplug it ( it is mo good removing fuse) then see what happens on mine everything returned to normal sat nav went in airing cupboard for a few days and bobs your uncle.

Hi chaps thanks go your replies. Haven't got sat navigation but think water ingress may be the problem. Should the central locking work off the key? The key will only unlock the drivers door and the central locking button won't work on the dash either. Have tried many times to re sync key so am assuming whatever module controls the locking/alarm is buggered.. Anyone with diagnostics in Birmingham?

You sure you haven't accidentally shorted out the cables somehow when connecting the new battery ??

Guessing you had none of these issues before hand ?

Thanks Hippo, had a 'soft' eas fault which wouldn't clear last weekend. Lift / lower inhibit button was lit but pump seemed to be working and car drove ok. When we returned to the car, key fob wouldn't work but opened fine on the key and off we went. Alarm went off early hours Thursday morning and battery completely flat so changed the battery and had this problem ever since.
I'm thinking it must be the bcm or ignition switch. Will order an allcoms unit from Storey tonight and hopefully I can look at what is going on with the bcm.

Hi New battery is tip top and starts the car in a flash, just lots of electrical faults. Spoke to a mate at L Rover and they suspect the fuses in the side panels are awash especially as my kicker wont communicate. If only I could get the doors and tailgate open.

Just a quick update. Alarm now not sounding all the time, just when you open the door or turn on the ignition and then only for 30 secs so maybe some progress. There is a procedure in Rave to disable the alarm and force the doors to open from the ignition switch. So going to try it tonight. I hope it works.
