That is why, with any drive train problem - ALWAYS test the VCU first :eek:.

now go to the FAQ section and search for "freelander" and start learning about yo motor
 
This ere front wheel drive fail problem. Can it be tested by jacking up 1 rear and 1 front wheel, then turn the rear wheel. If both props turn and the front wheel don't, then the ird is feked. Then put 4 wheels on ground and jack up other side and do the same.

Quick un easy to do wiv snow on the ground.
 
I'll try again since nobody seemed to grasp my previous post. If we're still talking about the PG1 box the fault is not the VC or the IRD but the spline in the final dive carrier in the gearbox. If you remove the IRD unit and look into the gearbox you will see the smaller of the 2 splines in the final drive hub has stripped.

I was listening Chaser, me not being an expert, I'm glad you posted as i'd never heard of this before.
You think LR would've made the smaller spline go to the rear by default.
 
I'll have a look at getting one of those, just in case :)
