But to be honest, they get a bad rep, as does any car on its dedicated forum because its usually questions about fixing problems.
Not the good stuff its allowed us to enjoy
Keep up with the maintenance, fix any small issues before they become monsters and they are a very drivable daily (forget fuel cost).

funny you should mention that. It does drain the battery and you've probably just told me why !Looks like all the usual suspects have been covered
Ow check what rf receiver is fitted as if its the original you may well suffer battery drain, but there is several fixes for that

A Nanocom will repay the cost in no time. A p38 is rarely free from niggles, but overall, the one I have had for 13 years has been reliable. Just one unrecoverable failure when the crap BMW plastic water pump cried enough. Had to trailer it home.
Once in 13 years can’t be sniffed at ! The more I’m reading the more I think you’re probably right. Are they specific to engines .? I.e would I need one specifically for a 1998 4.6 v8 or does the unit fit a few models .?
You need to order for your engine, other engine firmware modules can be added. You need to get for the correct model year too as things like the ABS and other ECU's changed over the years, again modules can be added.

I've had two failures in 11 years with my 4.6L V8 that required the car to be recovered. Once when the crankshaft position sensor finally failed & simultaneously an airspring exploded. The second occasion was when the 18 month old water pump bearings failed so the pump seized causing the serpentine belt to snap which took out the fan as well. I have had a couple of near misses with overheating that after refilling with coolant I was able to continue my journey. Finally a very uncomfortable 90 mile journey on the bump stops at 35mph after the EAS threw a fault that when I got home I cleared with the EASunlock software from RSW Solutions. I now carry a Nanocom in the car so if that happened again I could clear the fault at the roadside.
Wow sounds like carrying it is well worth while. If anyones got one that would suit my needs pre 2000 4.6 v8. That there selling let me know.
