That is cool looking disco, I also run 285 insa's and I've not had any shaft snaps yet thankfully.

And that mini is epic levels of cool........
 
iv not been off road yet to use the insas waiting for the next green lane or p&p day think im gonna try and get my self some spare shalfts for now my next thing i want is a locker for the back but thats pricy lol

yer im on the mini forum dont go on there much tbh i use the turbominiforum more

Got a realllly old mini manual from back when my dad had his in 80's/90's

I know where your coming from tho with the power jump
From my disco 110bhp ish I think they are and about 2tons

To my bike thats 120ish bhp and 161kg

Currently working on my 1.4 transfer box down to rebuild it as I really really hate the 1.2 I have on as a temp measure just far to steep and also prity clunky

It's all stripped and ready for a good clean.


Ordered a hd pin and rebuild kit so so once it's clean it can all go back together. Fortunately it looks like everything in side is in good nick and it already has a cross drilled input gear!! Result

neat tip i discovered was put the hi/lo selector ring on the opposite way to original, ie the more worn section engaging with the less worn low range gear and vice versa

attempt to get rid of some of the play in any box as the selector ring will hardly have ever been used in the low range position :)
 
id already though of that ;) was going to post up and see if it was ok to do but think il just do it now might as well spread the wear out hay.

i had a bit of a mare getting one of the bearing races off the diff it wouldn't budge. ended up putting my puller on then heating it up and tapping it with hammer and chisel (ok ok HITTING) and it still took me an hour to get it to come off

managed to forgett to order the darn shims for the rebuild but Mr Noisey to the recue had some for sale

yeah the shims require me walking to the post office but its Mary Celeste here at work today, need to wait for someone to turn up before i can go! :p
 
Well my bits for the transfer box have arrived
Including a shiny hd cross pin

so tomorrow il be cleaning everything and starting to re assemble
 
bit of an update work on the transfer box has been slow
i have lots done but as like always other things keep coming up
current state of play is input gear is shimmed fitted and "snug" (which is the technical term im using for enough drag)
the center diff is build up with the new hdpin

the centter diff is a little tiny bit notchy but as the washers are fiber i think it will give once its used and submersed in oil. i recon it needed two or a 29 and a 30 but i had to use a 31 as what ever i needed i cant get
the main shalft is build and shimmed and is "Snug" in the casing.
the selectors are build and ready to fit.

all i really have to do it the intermediat shalft and bolt the casings on

but as i said other things have got in the way...
one of wich my drivers seat deciding it wanted to split from the base so driving round right hand bends my seat tryed to put me in the passenger side not ideal i must say.
i have had to fabricate and weld repair sections for the base and then found the floor had fist sized hols in it what i thougt was floor pan was actuly a MUD PLUG lol
so after a bit of cutting/removing rust i have this

the top right is the second hole i have already repaired which also had the body mount and seat holes bit of a fiddle but perfect fit.

this is after a grind down and a coat of hammerite looks like new:D
