I recently read that the "2ltr mpi is often overlooked and actually returns better mpg than the tdi"

can this possibly be true???

any 2ltr petrol cars that i have owned, i.e ford and audi estates have returned apauling mpg.

anyone actually owned a mpi? worth a look?

Well I had a mondeo 2.0LX which did 25mpg round town and up to 35 on a run. My 300tdi does 26 round town and 32 on a run.

2.0MPi? you can't be serious. I would avoid it like the plague!

A 2 litre petrol in a 2.5 ton disco... you're 'aving a laugh Land Rover. My Honda Lawnmower got a better power to weight ratio than that.. and it's fantastic off road..!!!

I have an mpi (because I love discos but couldn't afford a tdi)
performance wise it is quicker on road than the tdi (I have overtaken enough of them to know) it returns a similar mpg to the v8 purely because of the power to weight ratio, but dont knock it because it brings more of us into the land rover fold who maybe wouldnt have been able to buy a tdi td5 etc...I am wondering if any of you experianced people know if the rover 620 turbo will be an easy swop for my poorly 2.0i...

The 2.0l MPI is the K series engine innt guys?

If i'm right then the reason people don't like them is that the head gaskets go as bad as the 1.8 freelanders. The k series is a powerfull engine (owned a few 1.8 and 2.0 rover coupes) but in my experience the head gasket WILL go, its just a matter of time.

Shouldn't imagine that having to hoik around 2.5tonne of disco is gonna be kind to an engine that blows the HG when in a 1 tonne coupe :(

I thought the MPi was the Rover "M" series as put in the Rover 800's and "Tomcat" 220 Turbo coupe. If it is, it's quite a solid engine compared to the K-series.
