Well 24 hours on a boat is not for me, so I'll be driving down crossing on the 17th late ferry and I shall meet Mike about 3pm or before on Friday, not sure if I'll stay there for the evening when we meet or crack on, then the long drive to the campsite the following day. Should get there on Saturday night.

The spare room will be available if you want it Chris, Its about a 19 to 24 hour drive from my place to Algeciras depending if you take the toll roads or the national roads.

Larry deffo, also the transfer box in the 90 is excellent but my last one must have been a 1:6 not 1:4 as it was stupid 60mph flat out. The 1.2 is a lot better with the loss of some low down grunt, but the economy has come up from 300 miles for a fill up of 11 gallons to 330+ I say + because I have not filled it up yet.

My 1.2 TBox added 10% to my range and it made it nicer to drive at speed. I get 440 miles on a tank now.

The Ratio is stamped on the transfer box. Mine is 1.4.
Mine will hold 70 mph and I get about 400 miles to a tank full. Most of my driving is around country lanes, I'm wandering if giving it longer legs is going to make it more of a pain driving it around here. The only real motorway work it does is driving down to Algeciras and back. Think I need to have a go in one with a 1.2 ratio to see. I'm not sure I like the idea of loosing the low down grunt. Mind you Larry seemed to cope OK
Mine goes in for a paint job next month. Thought it needed a tidy up.
I will be going pass your neck of the woods Chris just after Christmas. We will be over visiting friends and family from the 28th Dec to the 2nd Jan. If your around on the Saturday 2nd Jan might be able to meet up for a Lunchtime beer on our way back to Dover.

Hi Mike,

Oddly I'm at home from the 24th to the 11th January so yes you are welcome to come and stay.

Just filled the 90 up it worked out at 33mpg V's 29mpg with the old transfer box.

Thanks for the offer of a stay, but I was thinking of a meet up for a Saturday lunch time drink on the 2nd Jan. My brother will be over from Miami and we will be spending New Years eve with a chef friend of ours. We head back on the 2nd Jan . I am booked on the 18:00 ferry. A lunch drink would work with us. Good news about the increased fuel economy. That does seem to work out about 10% more.

Some people do find the 1.2 box makes them a little sluggish, but if you can increase the power output, the 1.2 is so much nicer, I have 180-190 hp and 500 Lbs of torque with the 1.4 box the truck ran out of gears too quickly.
I've got to change the crank pulley and associated front end engine parts, panhard bushes, rear springs and check the wheel bearings and then I'm done hopefully with all things oily. Over the Xmas holiday I will begin on building better storage, oh, and get an external speaker for my CB as running it through the stereo, whilst is nice and loud means I cant have any music on.

My 200 tdi is box standard. I think that's about 115 or 130 hp and probably very tired ones at that. I think the 1.4 box works for me; As I said most of my driving is around the country lanes here; It will hold 70 mph on the Auto route. Might take a hour or two long to get to Algeciras but then its nice to know I will have a bit more low down grunt. On the last trip if I remember correctly it did manage 33 mpg on a couple of stages going through the desert.
Mine is in the garage to get a leak sorted on the steering hydraulics and a noise coming from the rear axle somewhere.Could be an inner bearing or something similar. Then it goes in for a paint job. I ripped the radio out, could never hear anything anyway.
I did look at constructing something for the storage, but thought it's not worth all the effort for a two week holiday. I will just buy some plastic box type containers which stack and can be strapped down.

200 tdi was 107 bhp in the Defender and 111 in the Discovery, I don't look at it as a holiday, more of an endurance trial just to see how much dust can be captured in a Defender dashboard and to act as a rolling support vehicle for Ken LOL

Power steering systems take a pounding in deep sand, mine started to blow fluid out of the vent in the tank along a stretch we did down by the Algerian border, something which I have never seen before, I had a air temp sensor fitted to the engine side of the inner wing and on that day it was recording a temp of 80c under the bonnet.

Same colour, you are going to get it painted? Or something else, if so may I suggest Keswick green

My power steering system has been leaking on and off since I have had it. The last trip to Morocco cured it for a while. I will get it done properly and get all the seals replaced etc. I'm going to go for a very dark green, almost blackish. I will keep the roof either cream or white. It's going to cost me 2000 Euros, which works out about £1500 which when you see the amount of dents and dings it has plus the last two where I drove it off the ramps. I think works out quiet cheap.

Mike mine has been done as well but not as bad - one of my sons was changing the tyres and decided to use the high lift jack - what could I say when he was helping!!.

Ill be two days behind you Ken, I'm guessing we will be at the campsite at around 4ish on the Sunday, are you using a paper airfilter now?
