Sorry to hear that Mike. Don't feel too bad, mine looks better in the pic than in real life! For a start I screwed the hinges to the nice edge, rather than the one I cut by hand, and the wire was also not a great idea as the frayed bits are incredibly sharp. Also I don't think the platform sits flat!

Oh, and I had to angle grind a big section out of the rear door that is probably structural as the rivets for the catch sat way too proud!
 
Hi Guys, just got back on to LZ after a two year break, always hankered after doing a trip to Morocco but never did it due to money and time

Now thinking about doing the trip seeing as i now have a 2006 D3, so found this thread interesting :)

Don't know if you have seen the Morocco 2014 thread. Chris Suddell put a blog together which makes interesting reading and gives you some idea of what's involved. I think I speak for the majority when I say we had a greet time and nearly all of us are up for it again in 2016. See below:

I've not read it yet, I will do I did quite a bit of work and sorted a route, so would like to pick up on it, and go for it,

Just got the D3... I may need one to read the fault codes then?

Oh and I've just read about the LRO Show

I see your saying Easter, what are the actual dates?.. would need to get special permission form work as its over two weeks

Looks like i'll have to get the books and Maps out again :).... what route are you taking?

Hi,

All the other guys will be fine, last time we had 10 confirmed but only 5 went so its pretty flexible as to who says they are going or not at this time.

I'll be leaving about the Friday 18th March returning on the 3rd May, this is 8 days off work if you work Monday to Friday as the bank holiday is smack in the middle.

The will be quite simple, down to Tangir Med, Kanitra as a stop and then work it out. The ex-truckers will probably want to do through the deeper desert bit which they missed last time because James little Pony broke and they were having been whilst Mike, Ken and I cracked on. So they missed the good bit. We all did not get to the coast or some of the other parts.

So there is a possibility we may have two routes, Mike and I want to go into Marrakesh as well which will be a laugh, but this will only be decided when we meet up. Either way its like a wish list as we did not to do all we wanted last time. Here is the last sample route.

I may be taking a few extra days if I end up going in the 90 as its slow in comparison to the Disco.

8 days off is do able so it looks good for me, I take it you mean the 8th April?, the 18th March is my Birthday as well :).

I would like to do Marrakesh as well, it was on the backwards leg of the route that I had looked at, so good there as well :), and of course the cost road would be Nice to do..:)

Looks like I am going to have to start to work out the loading of the D3 :). Just got out the Michelin 742 Map out...lol
 
We did 10/11 days in Morocco and that left 4 for getting there and back, we got round Morocco with Ken mostly ahead of time.

Didn't we also say we would do the Plage Blanch down to Tan Tan? I would like to put that on the table if we can. And there was that gorge in the Atlas mountains that the three truckers were wanting to do also.
 
This looks like it could be an interesting Expedition, I would also like to do the Plage Blance, but up for anything that will not be out of the ability of my D3.. want to keep this one standard...lol

Hmmm, something within the ability of a D3 !!!.
I recon if you stay on tarmac it should cope if you carry enough spares.
( Sorry, couldn't resist that one)

Chris's Discovery copped very well and the P38 made it minus the bull bars which got ripped off when being towed out. If you take it steadily you should be fine as long as its well maintained. We are out to have fun, not too see if we can wreck our vehicles.
 
The previous owner had it maintained by the local independent for three years, and did not scrimp, I've used the Independent myself from time to time, so got the low down on the Disco before I brought it, and i indent to carry that on :)

Fun and adventure is good to me
 
You will, however, get half a ton of sand and dust in your car.

One thing i would suggests, after losing our bull bar, is to make sure you have some proper serious recovery points.
I intend to add some to front and rear.

Oh and welcome aboard, more the merrier i say :)

Yup that's about right, Marrakesh then down to the gorge, bit further down Tan Tan then the beach or other way around, as we know now 2 weeks will not be enough to do it all. So some sand, but also be in shouting distance of the odd pub and hotel to clean up a bit.
 
It's possible to stay at a campsite or hotel nearly every night if required, with exception of the route along the border between Zagora and tata and way down on the beach south of Tiznit.
 
Recovery Points are on thing I will have to look at, I have a tow bar at the rear, and there is a recovery point under the electrics flap above, its a big ring, and the front one is under a flap... so should be sorted there,

I am up for camping, in fact I love it, I do a lot of wild camping as I am into Bushcraft, I'll be using a Tarp, and I'll be using an Oztent, the odd Hotel may be nice just clean up from time to time....lol.
