Hi,

That radio supports 80 channels (40 UK/40 EU).

That's the origional UK FM bands for CB and EU bands from memory Oldun and Mikescuba should be ok because we set them to EU Frequencies to get them working with Garsides radio.

Might be worthwhile you all checking the list of your kit with the chaps before going, we had fun with this for the 1st couple of days and they are really useful.

I would not put Morocco up there with a war zone yet, so I'd think its quite safe as long as your sensible.

I have just done a long weekend in Tampa and that a lot more troublesome than where we went earlier this year.

None known at the moment but I am keeping an eye on IS and Ebola. The only doggy spots in the past have been along the Algerian boarder.
Surprised and sad to hear that about Egypt. I have visited Egypt about 25 times and always enjoyed myself. I know they try to rip you off , but that is part of Egypt.
 
Yeah, the ebola thing could get far worse, I asked about in Egypt about ISIS and it's felt that the current Military leadership will oppose them, but who knows really, as this is a religion thing, and the whole region is in turmoil.
Consensus in Egypt is that the people hate the new regime, and want the Muslim Brotherhood back, which is why the country is so messed up, we went to Cairo with two other couples and we collectively paid £300 for two armed police guards for the day, useful for getting rid of the CONSTANT beggars and street vendor aggressively grabbing you and shouting abuse at you if you don't want to buy their tat. One shop owner got bent out of shape and started shouting " your armies are killing our Muslim babies"
Got driven around Cairo in two Land Cruisers all day, and to be honest I never bothered even getting out of them at the Pyramids or the Cairo museum as the state of the place with beggars and vendors was out of control. In fact I only got out once at some floating toilet TGI Fridays on the Nile, and even then I skipped the food. Surprisingly the choice of weapons were quite good they had, 2 MP5s, Beretta M9 hand guns, and Winchester tactical shotguns, escorted back to the plane and returned back to prison that is Sharm, where it's only safe to dwell at the resort, which has Soldiers in the car park and armed police at reception. Seems that it's only the British and Russian governments think it's fine for people to travel there, no other nationalities were there, and for good reason, we have no business being there.
Going to stick with Mexico or the US, tried somewhere else and hated it.

Yup, will get the stuff ordered soon.

I'm thinking of mounting it on the spare wheel carrier, would that work? Then I can run the cable up through where the rear loom enters.

I mounted mine on the roof rack so it stands clear from any obstructions. If I remember correctly Ken had his mounted on his Bull bars, he claimed it worked better on there. I don't know what size Ariel you have, you need to keep in mind going over bumps and ruts the ariel will whip about. You don't want it whipping against the body of your vehicle.
 
As spacedawg says, to get the best out of it you need to SWR it up and make sure it, and the cb have good earths.

Ken probably had a good earth with it being on the bullbars. Roofracks are ok as long as you get a good earth to the vehicle. If you have plastic or rubber protectors on your roof rack, then you'll never get anywhere.

Ok, so things have progressed, got four new HD drive flanges today, nothing wrong with the current ones, just fancied some bling, so that's now four spare drive flanges I will have.
I also bought some silicone coolant hoses, so I will have a full set of rubber ones as spares, I'm off to collect at set of 110 rear half shafts soon, for spares too.
As for tools, I was in Halfords earlier and they have a sale on their professional range of tools, so I picked up a 200 piece socket and ratchet spanner set for £150 ( lifetime guarantee), thought it might be easier packing it and stowing it in its plastic case than going through the agony of selecting which tools to bring along and finding a suitable storage home for them.

Been thinking about navigation, lap top or some sort of built in unit that can accept flash memory cards? What's the verdict on that Panasonic ruggedised laptop? Any good?

I have recently bought a second hand Panasonic Toughbook CF 18 mk5 which I am trying to get to grips with. I have loaded BaseCamp and MapSourse on it. I am now trying to work out how to get the GPS to plot my position on the mapping. The Toughbook is not a fast laptop by today's standards but does appear to be as the name describes, Tough. Another good thing about it is, it's size. Its only about 10 inches which would take up less room in the front of a 110. My trouble is I am here in France so I have to work it out myself.
 
Mounting is my concern of a laptop,just where would it go, that's why I was thinking so,we built in Garmin type sat nav, but I can't find a shop local that really knows what I want or need, Halfords were useless, not sure the 8 year old working there knew what a Defender is or where Morocco is.

Those laptops do seem to be highly rated though, for robustness and general,reliability.

For good quality, rugged mounting solutions give these guys a try RAM Mount UK
The website is a bit cluttered but give them a bell and tell them what you want, they're generally very helpful and knowledgeable.
 
I'm going to use a tablet with a desk bracket connected to the shelf. The osmand app seems pretty good on first looks.
 
I am a little disappointed with the stuff I'm trying to buy, so far the roof rack and the ARB winch bumper all have to be ordered in on 6 weeks lead times, I like to see and try before I buy,and the same goes for all the millions of sat nav systems, I've got a ipad , but it's a little bit too big to mount in a convenient place, as the td5 dash has even less room than a 300 tdi defender.
I've got some time to get a lot of the work done to my 110, and as a usual the stuff I want is unavailable when I want it. Off to get one of those Waeco c40 fridges tomorrow, so I can start looking for a suitable place to install it.

Got the fridge today, have it running in my barn right now, seems that the Waeco stuff is pretty tough. Its a 240v one so it has a compressor in it so I will run it off an inverter with a second battery and just switch it off at night or long periods when the 110 is not running.
