Hi Guys,

Haven't been on the site for a fair old while now however I am in the early stages of planning my first trip to Morocco.

Purpose of thread:
Well I guess firstly I'm looking for any advice people would like to share and secondly this is an open invitation to anyone who would like to join me.

I have yet to set dates etc and currently theres only me going :).

I have already purchased maps of Morocco etc and almost finished on Chris Scott's book (very useful for anybody not interested in this trip but considering a trip).

Any help or advice would be much appreciated and anybody interested in coming feel free to drop me a message for info.

Cheers,
Glenn

Hello, would be good to know how long you have in Morocco. What time of year. What vehicle are you taking. Solo vehicle or going with others. Offroad/green laning experience. Taking kids.

I just got back a couple of weeks ago. Be happy to offer info on routes cost etc.

Pictures here....

Hello Mate,

Some fair points made there;

Vehicle: Land Rover Defender 90 (300tdi) fully kitted out for almost every eventuality.

Time: Looking at leaving on a Friday night have two working weeks there (10days annual leave) and start the return trip on the Friday night giving 2 nights and 2 days to return to England.

Season: Unsure on when to leave, I was considering April time however open to ideas with this too.

Persons going: Only myself at present, no children etc.

Experience: Been driving off road/green lanes for roughly 10 years, completely happy to take people with little experience etc.

With regard to routes that would be a massive help, I have a few maps etc however if you can recommend any specific ones please let me know. I would also be happy to travel down and see you to discuss ideas etc.

Regards,

Glenn

We have now been twice to Morocco. Without repeating myself too much feel free to see our website www.rustyrhinos.com for our routes, pics and so forth. But also do a search on here - there are quite a few threads with in-depth replies. But if you have anything specific feel free to message me :)

Hi

We liked Morocco so much we have been two summers on the trot as a family Holiday :):):)

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f15/national-lampoon-morocco-2012-a-195856.html

My advice would be to stay away from the Coast (stinking **** hole), Summer is toooo hot to go into the dessert (Zagora in July 46°C @ 10pm) other side of summer be prepared for storms, roads washed out & snow in the Atlas mountains. Learn a bit of French, be prepared to be ripped, National sport trying to get tourist's to part with their money. "Please sir you speak English, come in my shop and translate English medication for my dying mother" Pot of mint tea to thank you and then bum yeh £50 for a piece of jewelry that's worth a quid !! All good fun :D Ask the price of everything first ;)

Check your Landys oil levels gearbox/transfer box etc regularly as if you have a leak your going to lose more oil rattling down through Spain on the motorway at high speeds.

Make sure your Landys well prepared, take spares, 2nd spare wheel. Front underside protection, f-off winch bumpers with spots etc..will restrict cooling and she might start over heating if it's really hot.

Take a fridge, hard wire it into a second battery as them cig lighter plugs are crap and unplug them self's too easily. Don't overload it with too much warm stuff in one go as it might overload and the only way of getting them going again is to cool the radiator bit with a fan/ventilator.

Absolutely fantastic place to go, will blow your mind- Enjoy :)

I'd love to go, I've been pestering the misses for months on the idea, she wants to go to Morocco, but, not by Landy... which i thought was fine, but, apparently that doesn't mean I can go by myself by Landy for some reason :(

I will keep working at her! Are you organising it yourself or looking to go with a tour company? (like Atlas Overland for example)

Better perhaps ?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the response, it does look like an amazing place and honestly I can’t wait :).

What GPS system do you use to navigate out there? Would you have any suggestions of routes? any secrete trails that are worth checking out?

Had a look on the link :) looks like you guys have some fun out there!!

Many Thanks,

Glenn

Wow! Hello Glenn.... was only nattering about you a week or so ago... so you're off to new climes eh? Have a natter to Adam or Alex from Rusty Rhinos... I have their route tracking data here somewhere, I am sure they wouldn't mind sharing it with you!
