yes they ration our taxes to chavs to rent out houses privatly down your street to sell drugs and breed more chavs, the cycle continues

On the oil question the magnatec brand has been taken to court repeatedly, I use gm oil and it has no fancy packaging. But the spec is suitable for the stuff I do

I assume the court case yu are referring to is the one in the states which they won regarding whether Magnatec is a mineral or semi-synthetic oil.
My understanding of that is that it is described as "synthetically produced" and is a mineral oil with synthetically cracked components in it. I suppose it's a semi-synthetic oil, but as usual, marketing weasel words, but nevertheless a good oil, if not exactly cheap. My biggest gripe about these products is that they deliberately sell them in 4 or 4.5litre containers which mean yu have to buy an additional 1 or 2 litres at vastly inflated prices to do an oil change. Not a prob if yu buy oil in 25 or 50 litres, but not everyone has the storage facilities.

The maketing is all about selling you what you percieve as a fuel saver/wear reducer Etc Etc. If you took notice of all the snake oil claims that are legal, but don't actually if you read them, claim anything. Just that you could or maybe under the right conditions save this or that or reduce wear in this or that. For a few hundred quid you could (notice the word could) have an engine the does 200 MPG and never wears out. It's just jargon but people fall for it.

I just look for the best deal I can find on 10-40 semi, last change was with auto care oil at £12.99 for 4.5 litres, change it every 6K-job done. Ok deisel now is low sulpher so in theory the oil changes could be longer but it's not exactly the hardest job in the world so will stick to my routine.

Way to go mate. But if you go to Partco or a motor factors you may get bulk oil for slightly less than that a gallon. With a diesel, it is change often that is the golden rule. It is totally pointless using the all singing and dancing stuff to do this. Unless you have money to burn.

The important things when getting engine oils are

a) the viscosity (which depends on its working environment - see FAQ section)
b) that it meets the requisite API specs for the engine manufacturer.

Re the legal bit , when I was out in Canada last year they actually had an advert (may have been on a yank channel) saying that we have done x number of tests and castrol out performs/reducers wear etc 35% better than mobil 1.

By coincinence there was Bird staying in my hotel on business, got talking and she said she worked for mobil and they had seen the adver and were a bit worried  lol

I said that she shud get em to do summit about that soon or they is gonna loose lots of custom, especially as the ad was on in every break!!
