Greetings:

I have a military vehicle that I am in the process of restoring and
need very basic insurance coverage (because our village just passed an
ordance that you cannot keep vehicles on your prviate property unless
they are registered for road use). I just need the absolute min.
required insurance and my primary insurance company will not accept
the vehicle.

I came to this newsgroup for suggestions previously. Haggerty was
suggested. No go. They jerked me around for nearly 6 weeks. Told me
everythign was "all set"....then sent me a letter telling me that they
wouldn't cover the vehicle. When I called, first they told me it was
because it "has a trailer". When I explained that that was the
original configuration, they humms and hawed and then said because
"[your] restoration schedule does not meet our criteria. We only
insure vehicles from people who are profeesion or near-professional in
their dedication to their vehicle." (Well, gee, I'm sorry I need to
work 8 hours a day!)

So anyway, any suggestions for companies is appreciated. I have
already gotten two warning letters from the village.

Thank you!!

I've heard good things about J.C. Taylor as well, also State Farm will
insure classics but for about 2x what the specialty companies charge.
I have my Studebakers insured with State Farm because they are the
only company I've found that doesn't insist on the cars being garage
kept (they're not.) Only gotcha is that when I first insured my '62
it was under restoration and they charged me a higher rate until I got
it painted, assembled, etc. (now it's real cheap - something like $60
for 6 months.)

State Farm is OK until you have a claim. They take and process your
payments just fine; however when it is time to perform any service under
a claim, they low ball you and then drag the process out indefinately.

I was price gouged by State Farm in NJ. As you can readily find by
doing a little internet research, State Farm was subjected to a
multi-million dollar fine by the State of NJ for price gouging. Go to
Google and enter "State Farm price gouging" and you will note that NJ
was not the only place where this type of activity is / was in evidence.

When I had a claim, after ten years of promptly paying premiums, it was
necessary to get a lawyer involved before they paid off on my original
estimate for having the vehicle repaired.

Do yourself a favor, skip State Farm and look elsewhere.

YES skip State Farm. They are happy to take your money, but good luck trying
to get a claim paid. W W
