I got a disco 2 td5 auto two days before xmas for £3.5k, with a years test, no advisories and it only failed on the horn which was replaced.
I have never had a land rover before though worked on many and never had an autobox either, I also never had a vauxhall till last sept when my mum gave me her old one, a 2010 Meriva with 21230 on the clock and I hated it from the start, I am selling it asap now I have the disco.
The whole family love it, it is big, powerfull enough, can pull a chassis cab dodge 50, fuel econ is much better than any of my trucks though being auto not as good as a manual, my first drive was a 700 mile round trip and afterwards I got out and walked away, any other vehicle I have I would have crawled after 700 miles.... yes it was a pleasure to drive and when I stopped I just wanted to start again.
I love driving and always have and even though I know I will be continully fixing / replacing something now I have a Landy (same as owning 50 series vehicles) and I know there are a lot of electrics that can go wrong, it is a love job and me and my son are already planning a rock crawler now we have the Landy bug though most likely a def 90 for that project.
So to round up my waffling....go for it, you know you want to, they are such great vehicles etc etc......
