Have you tried getting hold of the bonnet release cable from underneath and giving the whole inner/outer a tug to pop the bonnet open. Seen this on other cars but not needed to try it on one of these (yet!!) but there's bound to be s bit of stretch on the cable to allow the striker to release so you can get at the battery.
