Got to be leaking from somewhere else anorl. Cracks won't do that alone. They normally just let the pressure out.It would be interesting to see if people think that is crazed enough to be letting significant coolant out.
It'd also be interesting, both for you and the group, if anyone has any ideas on whether that could be coated in something rather than getting a new bottle as the new ones seem to be very ropey.
You're right, this definitely wouldn't result in the coolant drips you've seen coming from the engine. Nodge's suggestion on the plastic connector/bit sounds like the first place to look.
Reservoirs direct from propper LR main dealers are much betterer than those said to be genuine parts. The cost difference is only minor but one is known genuine... The other int, no matter what it looks like or what the seller ses. It can easily be a copy or reject.
They even sell genuine reservoirs ont eb ay, complete with a coating of genuine oil intside.
