hi guys im looking to get back on the horse so to speak
after driving the vectra round for the last 3 months i can take no more
i definitely want another rangi and its gona be a diesel but after owning a v8 p38 for 3 years i know many of the problems related to the p38 (and theres alot) this is why im tempted to go for an early and more modern l322 but they have there own problems too
ive got access to about £5k+ trade in on the vectra (worth about £2000) but the wife wanted to keep it
id welcome any advice/experiance anyone has to offer

£7K will buy you a very nice P38 (and leave change) but only get you a very tired L322, that's if you can find a diesel at all at that price and if you can expect space ship mileage. Just had the same choice to make ourselves, opted for an 02 P38 with 40k on the clock. Haven't regretted the decision yet.

P38 mate. Love them mate. Just have a good look round for a good one. Someone thats lookt after one. Like mine. But i am not selling it. Lol. But there is alot of crap out there as u know not many goodens. Find a low miler one mate if u can. 51 plate 02 ??? If not go the l322 route but they r fetching more money as u know

L322 all the way
Although I don't think you will get a diesel one for that budget
Maybe a petrol on lpg

Make that an 8 grand budget and you will find some nice td6 l322's

I would swap my p38 for a L322 tomorrow if I had the chance, P38 is just a defender with doors that fit.......

As soon as you drive one after a p38 you will easily tell that their in a totally different league

Give one a test drive for your self
You will love it !

A late P38 every time, a lot easier to fix when they go wrong and a lot cheaper too. Example, a set of Airsprings for a P38 £278 (Arnott Gen 2's), one front airspring for the L322 £365.
The L322 is no more reliable has as many water leaks and the auto box has a very short life.

I just bought a 2002 p38 v8 (LPG). My thinking was it's better to get the last of the generation rather than chance it with a first production of the new generation (L322) as at least some of the design faults will have been sorted on the later production p38's. Personal preference with regards to looks i suppose. Also, as mentioned, parts are much cheaper for P38's.

That would be my thinking too. Also, there is far more experience of the P38 in the enthusiast community. Problems are well known and are able to be diagnosed quickly. The newer vehicle is less well documented.
