Just received this from another site. dunno what software they are using, but it sounds good.

Any chance of Roy looking into this?

We performed an upgrade to the VxON Forums a few weeks back now, adding some great new features:

Fully responsive design - In English, this basically means the site will dynamically resize depending which device you are using to view it, instead of having to use separate templates, or worse still, phone apps such as Tapatalk and Forum Runner you now have the full forum functionality on your phone and tablet!

New editor - The new editor allows dragging and dropping and even copying and pasting of pictures! It's now even easier to upload photos and other content when creating new posts on VxON. This new editor works the same on all devices, so no longer will you have to use a cut down version on Android or iDevices.

Forum Watching - You can now watch a forum for new threads or messages! If you want to be notified everytime new content is posted to your favourite area of the forum, this is now possible.

Autosaving of draft messages - When you are typing up a new thread now, you will see a 'Draft Saved' icon appear briefly in the bottom right hand corner of the message window, this even allows you to start typing a message on your desktop machine, going to your mobile / tablet device and finishing off the thread from there!

It was also bought to our attention that some users of Internet Explorer 8 were having difficulty browsing the forum, it took a little while to discover this issue, but as of today (29/08/13) this issue is now resolved, thank you for your patience and thank you to those that reported the issue, apologies that it took so long to resolve.

it's only the idiots with i-poos who have to use tap-a-talk - both my blackberry and galaxy s3 and my Nexus 7 tablet browse the forum perfectly using the normal browsers.

Note 2 and nexus 7 fine on lz
Where is the ban crapatalk button

Ah but at least us with superior machines will be able to use them with the new software. :p your PC will simply shrivel into a ball and die :D

The VxON forum has upgraded to the forum software called XenForo, and yes, it is very nice. I have bought a copy of the software and have tested it out. It is a very big job to change over, but I am seriously thinking about it! The only other option is vBulletin 4 or 5, but that software is now terrible!
Check it out and let me know what you think...

Anything that stops the need for photobucket is a bonus

agreed, its just taken me half an hour to copy and paste some of the photos from todays laning trip. I would have done more but its a pain in the arse so i can be bothered. :(

I was on another forum that used xenforo, I hated it* but more importantly there was a problem of some sort with the software devs getting sued by the company they used to work for for nicking code which meant the future of xenforo being a bit uncertain. I'll try and find out a bit more about it.

*One of the things I hated is that it reminded me of MSN for some reason, it just seemed great for kids but not for a grown up forum. It was also as slow as **** and horrible on Android.

ETA Seems like the legal issues are sorted now but I still prefer Simple Machines Forum or phpBB

The xenforo issues were basically that jelsoft who the two lead devs worked for on vBulletin, got bought by what essentially is a company who buy up profitable businesses and then strangle the life out of them. They saw what needed to be done to move the software forwards and wanted to do a rewrite, the new management disagreed and wanted to bodge it.

So they left and started xenforo. The new owners of jelsoft got ****y because they thought there was code theft etc, probably more importantly they saw dollars disappearing as customers left.

Xenforo is still in its infancy, and isnt perfect but a lot of forums are moving away from vB due to its failiure to move with the times, and rumour has it charges are due to be bumped up significantly. There are a lot of good packages out there, I do think xenforo is good, as is phpbb.

Moving to another platform will be a huge job, but its probably worth considering.

One of the forums I used to use had an auto-prune feature whereby any thread that wasn't made a sticky, not within the Moderator section or not posted in within a set time period (this one was 90 days) got automatically deleted.

Not sure if something like that would benefit this forum...?

Not for most, but for the for sale and general banter sections it would be nice
