New turbo fitted (photos to follow) but still waiting for an exhaust bracket to arrive before I can refit the down pipe.

Good and bad....

The turbo people said that the piston, seals and bearings were all badly worn. The actuator was almost seized.

Fitted all and gave her a complete service.

She started first time - a little smoke which soon cleared.

All seemed great.

After five mins I pulled the dip stick out and checked for pressure - when I removed my finger she spat oil out. Undid the airbox end of the pipe from the cyclone filter and she was spitting oil. Too much pressure.

This is totally new territory for me - clearly something else is broken, what do I do next?

No, I was refering to what was wrong with the turbo; which has now been reconditioned by a local company. I refitted the turbo and started her up. All seemed ok but when I checked for pressure I discovered that she is now spitting oil out.

Check crank case breather either that or engine knackered

ok so read it wrong. have you checked compresion ? as sounds like iether h/gasket or rings worn . what miles on engine?

I haven't checked the compression as I don't have the means.

Not sure of mileage as the previous owner dropped a defender 200tdi motor in. I've done 30k on it.

I hope i was wrong a couple of pages ago, but dont jump to the conclusion it is fecked just yet....

Engines always have some piston blow by, and crank case pressure as you're aware; my pd150 tdi golf sounds like a tractor if you remove the oil filler cap while she is running!

Do you have another 200/300 you can compare yours with?

I would try taking the cyclone filter off (That black box on the side of the rocker cover, 1 x 10mm bolt and 2 pipes) and cleaning it out with some thinner or petrol.

It can cause excessive crankcase pressure...

Have removed the cyclone filter and cleaned it thoroughly - it's done about 10k miles.

Started her up without the cyclone filter fitted. All was normal for about 5 mins then oil seeps out of the rocker cover hole where the cyclone filter goes, presumably the oil meant to go down the other end back to the bottom end?

Refitted the cyclone filter, after 5mins it spits oil into the pipe going to the airbox.

Anyone have a pressure test kit around me?

Tried to remove the head to investigate further but, having stripped everything off, it won't separate. Any ideas?

It's off - the head gasket doesn't look to good around no 4 (furthest away from the bulkhead?).

I'll clean it up, have it skimmed and pop it back together. All tips welcome.
