Can’t seem to remove my exhaust maniframe to get at starter motor. Bolts are very rusted and hidden away , do the exhaust pipe and the maniframe come attached or are they separate pieces ?

are there any other ways of getting this starter out ?? Or any tools you’d recommend ? For getting rusted nuts off that are hidden away , been stuck for a day or two.
Ordering a new starter the moment I get the old one out !
It’s supposed to be two spanner’s but I can’t undo the bolts that are tucked away and I’m afraid to pull out those that attach to the engine Incase I can’t get them back in.

you need a socket with several extensions and possible even wobble bar or UJ joint. It is possible without removing the exhausts manifold but it is easier with the manifold off. Soak the manifold bolts in penetrating fluid for a couple of days and give them a wire brushing in between. they should then either some off easily or snap. wither way you get the manifold off, but if it snaps you will then need new studs and remove the snapped end and replace. I may have been lucky but I have not had a stud snap yet after spending a a few days brushing and penetrating fluid every couple of hours before trying to remove.
Penetrating fluid ? What would you recommend ? I’ve used wd40 on them haven’t brushed them though ? If it takes a while I’ll just keep brushing them and spraying them. Eventually they’re bound to loosen ?

Thanks for the help !! really appreciate it want. Going by September.

I get the top bolts from above using 11/16AF or 17mm , the metric is a ratchet spanner which helps , it’s bolting into ally so not too bad on mine , not sure with your different engine? If same spanner’s and clearances on mine
Normally 10mins to swap starter
Can you get an extension on spanner ie pipe or another spanner

Surely you do not need the manifold off to get starter unbolted.
Have you had a look at it from underneath the landrover.
Proably easier to take the wing off than the manifold and exhaust , removing wing will increase access.about 10 bolts and screen wash parts and lighting wiring to disconnect.

I agree you should be able to undo the starter by using a long (10" or so) extension on your ratchet.

WD40 is not a penetrating release fluid...it stands for water dispersal 40th concoction...in other words was the 40th attempt at a fluid that disperses water that worked...you need 50\50 autimatic fluid to acetone its the best and cheapest...

or anything that is described as penetrating fluid. Screw fix basics is quite good, as is plusgas.
