Does anyone know the detail of the differences between a “Landrover radio for the US market” and one that was OEM UK? Reading between the lines of the various adverts for radios it seems that the UK ones get Long Wave and the US ones don’t. FM band is the same (or near enough?)

One advert on eBay suggests the US radio won’t work without being reprogrammed but that’s not been my experience.

I worked in RF once upon a time and whilst I can understand the RDS standards might be different between the US and UK, I don’t know of any issues to stop the radio receiving.

Anyone got any ideas what the official differences are?

PS: I appreciate that I don’t need a radio badged “Landrover”
but if I can pick one up cheap I’m happy to make my Defender look original. (And replace the aftermarket cheap and nasty radio with no CD player that keeps fading out for two seconds before cutting back in...)

That makes perfect sense although goodness only knows why as scanning through every 100 kHz is not difficult at all. (I suppose if their preferred channel spacing only allocated station frequencies at even numbers then what’s the point of scanning the odd ones and it speeds the scan up. ). Thank you.

They have a lot of radio stations in the us and most very local to towns/states - there’s probably a technical reason for it but i don’t know what it is!
