Morning all,
I've been reading an interesting thread on RR.net about the loss of sync between GEMS BECMs and engine ECUs.
It appears that a tool to fix it was issued to all North American Spec dealerships called a FOUT tool.
You plugged it in to a couple of pins on the GEMS, put the BECM in learn mode and switched on.
Basically it reprogrammed the engine ECU mobilisation code to be FFFF. It was found that the BECM only forgot binary zeros not ones, so making the code FFFF ensured the mobilisation code doesn't have any zeros in it.
Has anyone in the UK ever heard of having this done? By all accounts you need testbook to re-program the GEMS ecu. I'm not sure if any of the others diagnostics machines will do it. Perhaps someone else can shed some light for me?
It's certainly something I'd like done if it removes the possibility of loosing sync ever again, and I can't be the only one that wants that!
Also, I know that you can write any mobilisation code to the EDC and THOR with a Nanocom. Is there any advantage to making this FFFF too?
Here's the link to the FOUT procedure to "Modify the Immobilisation strategy".
