Hi its me again( mister angry that hates landrover franchised dealers).

The reasom I think I may go Jap crap is that they are far more reliable in general. However a landy is still the best badge to have .

I like the look of the landcruiser, lots of toys,goes anywhere and holds it money.

The problem i have with landy dealers is the price that they charge for everything. If you buy brand new then you have to pay the servicing costs while under warranty, if you dont then when it ****s up ,it is hard to get the repair work done if your book isnt stamped.

I dont know what to do, maybe I will buy my next landy from an inderpendent dealer and sea what happens.

it don't matter what the car make is you'll always get dealer that care more about profit than they do about punters. and imo alll franchised mechanics are crap

If you are a franchised dealer then you want to be HUNG DRAWN AND QUARTERED.

I HAVE NEVER YET MET A LANDY DEALERSHIP( FRANCHISED) THAT GIVES A CRAP ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS.

TO THEM WE ARE WALKING WALLETS READY FOR THE TAKING.

Get a LR, and then find one of these guys who knows every LR like the back of his hand, sleeps under the ramps at night, and never changes out of his overalls.

You need to hunt for them though.

its not a case of bad experience, its more a lack of experience on the mechanics part.. they work in a particular garage ,they learn about a particular make of car, they are taught to replace rather than repair because its quicker to unbolt something and bolt a new one in its place than it is to repair the offending part.
i could recount many tales of main dealers taking the quick easy option against the cheaper option. how many times have we heard of dealer mechanics changing every part possible only for some one on here to come up with the solution that don't cost any thing.

or the owner that takes his gaylander to the main dealer and have to sign over his wife and kids to pay for the work, only to still have the same problem. he then goes to "harry's back yard garage " and harry fixes it in 5mins by sorting out the bad earth.
you can bleet all you like but most dealer trained mechanics are fitters rather than mechanics.. its not their fault its just the way things are.

no im not a franchised dealer but i do work in one, its the greedy shareholders that stipulate costs no dought, i just fix them and i have full sympathy with you over costs, i would not pay it but then im in the trade,

things like like callin the gas man or the plumber with a call out fee of 80 quid or so is same sort of senario they see an opportunity to take easy cash which winds me up.
more people should start using cheaper garages for repairs and use the dealer for warrenty i know thats wot i would do,

i suppose they see it as if the customer can afford to 60k for a range rover then they can afford labour costs for repair

To sing the praises of the independents and illustrate my idea of customer service. I ordered a rear/brake lamp form a well known independent in North Yorkshire based just outside Thirsk. Don't know if I can mention names on here but many will know who I mean. The part costs about £6. There was a difficulty in me getting to pick it up before they closed, conversation went like this -

"Where do you live?"

"Northallerton"

"I've a mechanic who lives in Northallerton, he can drop it off on his way home"

Mechanic comes on the phone. Tell him which street I live on.

"Do you have a white 110?"

"Yes"

"J- Reg?"

"Yes"

"I know where you are, I live just up the street, I'll call in this evening"

And he did, payed by cheque.

Fantastic - now that is what I call good customer service, they also supplied a seat belt at half the price of the main dealer.

Labour costs at that Garage - £35 per hour.

Am I allowed to say who they are?

£35 Per Hour , Reasonable And Yet The Dealership Still Get To Make A Healthy Profit.
Also Customer Servive, Is How It Should Be ,in That The Mechanic Who Dropped The Part Of, Went Out Of His Way To Help The Customer.

Give That Man A Medal.

I don't call 30 grand a year for a mechanic a great wage.That equates to about £430 take home money per week.......crap.I bet the greedy franchise owner don't work for that sort of money,more like sits on his fat,lazy,jacksy doing sweet fanny adams.The problem with this country is greed,greed,and more greed.They think because you own a Land Rover you are some sort of rich dick.If any of you have got a modest boat moored at your local marina you will know exactly what I am saying.

Ask the greedy shareholders if they condone their greedy company charging extortionate prices for parts,etc (I bet they do).How can anyone justify over £700 for a piece of metal and rubber that couldn't cost more than a tenner to make.I am of course referring to the Viscous coupling,which is deliberately made to expire after a very short time.This unfortunately is the way of this country in general and always will be while we have the rich leeching of the working man.
