L322 Towing Electric's Relay I.D.

Hi guys i've just bought the towing electrics complete with module, how ever there is one problem the relay is missing.... does anyone know what type/make or serial No. it would be so that i can start looking rather than end up going to LR as thats my last port of call !

Any L322 tow bar owners that could check their wiring loom located in the drivers side rear compartment ?

Not sure which part you mean by the relay but the numbers I have for mine are as follows:

single socket (plug-in): YWj 500460 or VUH 000020/30
Double socket (plug-in): YWJ 500450 or VUH 000040
interface (relay? small fag packet sized box): YWC 000840

Mine has a Tyco Electronics relay, part no. VF4-15F21-S01

Hi Guys - I’m in the same situation as Garwillis - trying to find the tow relay - great to see the part number already posted - my relay box looks like it has a flat blade jumper where the relay should plug in - presumably it pulls out? Can anyone advise? Perils of 2nd hand parts I guess with no instructions...

Sorry to jump in on this thread rather than start another.
I’m a new owner of a 2003 HSE tdv6. It’s got towing electrics etc fitted. I was told when I did my trailer test (many years ago now) that every vehicle needs to either flash an extra light or make a beeping noise when indicating with a trailer connected. Mine doesn’t... all trailer lights are working (leds) and I do run a camera to watch the horse while I’m moving (runs off interior light wiring), but I’m concerned (slightly) that it’s not doing anything when I indicate to remind me I’m towing (not that I can forget my best friend in the back, but you know what I mean.) I am using an adapter for the 13 to 7 pin socket.
Any ideas please?

It's probable that the LED's do not draw enough current to activate the warning light, in effect the BCM is unaware that the trailer is present.

I'd have a look on eBay using the information from Bemble or failing that put a standard 40A automotive relay in from Maplin or similar.

Not sure if this will help answer your question, but maybe. The visual indicator, is not to remind someone they are towing , if they are not aware of that , they should not be driving. Especially as all drivers should be frequently checking ALL mirrors! It is to tell you that the trailer indicator lights are working.
The visual or audible warning must tell you that your trailer indicator lights are working, rather than bulb failure light, which tells you they are not.
Check your owners manual to see if you have a visual or audible warning system. If not, time to get one wired in.

Hope this helps.

P.s Just noticed trailer lights are LEDs. This may be the issue. People cleverererer than me can tell you why @Saint.V8 , @holidaychicken , @wammers and @ others who might know

2nd addit: Considering where you work/ed , surely someone there would know the answer to this, and can give you hands on help?

Thanks. I don’t often forget I’ve got a trailer on the back, it’s usually when I take it off I can’t remember which way to turn the steering wheel to park!
My friend can wire a buzzer in for me if needed. I towed again today with the camera running off the lights and I did check everything was working before i left as it was 2 hours of motorway with my precious horse on board so I’m guessing it’s cos they’re leds. As I’ve not found anything in the handbook. Will have another look though..

If you're lucky @Saint.V8 will see he's been tagged and explain the issue with LEDs

Addit: I'm working on the premise that the screen for the camera in the horsebox cannot be seen by you whilst driving? Otherwise you are on a sticky wicket.

Usually the camera is triggered by the reverse lights so only while reversing. Unless this is something jury-rigged.

Rather than a buzzer just add extra (normal) bulbs somewhere so it draws enough current.

As has been suggested by Grrrrr, add a couple of 21 watt bulbs in the trailer wiring for the indicators and hide them inside somewhere. I have had to do the same on my Transit.

Funny how modern stuff falls over when the old stuff works, the telltale on my RRC is happy indicating when towing trailers with or without led units fitted; you can fit a 13 to 13 pin canbus adapter if you don’t fancy adapting the trailer wiring

I believe, due to the fact the trailer is on LEDs, they are not drawing enough power to tell, the appropriate brain, they are there. I'm sure there be a workaround, but it's black magic to me.
However, as I said before, considering where @Annabellabong works, they should be able to solve this. It's not as if they don't know green oval

You could hook it up to a trailer board that has normal bulbs in it see what you get then take a bulb out see if any indication its gone, does it have genuine wiring kit on it if so it cuts out rear parking sensors and locks suspension at normal ride height when trailer plugged in not hundred per cent on this but I believe no indication on dash unless bulb goes the you get check lights message. Mine has had a bulb fail by pass relay on it which has a buzzer in it and I believe it works but seeing as its behind a panel at the back of the car and I`m going a little deaf ( amongst other things) plus tinitus in both ears I dont stand a bloody chance of hearing it !

Just had a thought : have you checked with a non-LED trailer? Might be chasing the wrong issue
