A 1.8 petrol, eh?
The VCU wil be the least of your worries. Keep a paranoic eye on the coolant level. Make sure you get a remote thermistat fitted, the coolant has the correct antifreeze and you add something like "water wetter" to the coolant and you might just avoid head gasket failure. Unlikely but you might get lucky.
 
thanks for the heads up MHM , its already had a new head gasket, so do i still need to get a thermostat thingy to stop it happening again ? xxx
 
NOTHING you will do will stop it happening again. The 1.8 is notorious for sequential HGF. It really is a crap injun:(. All you can do is to try an reduce the risk and try and load things slightly more in your favour.
 
oh no !! im starting to think ive made a big mistake !! perhaps i should have kept my honda ?????? looks like im going to need deep pockets and like my mate andy says a bloody big tool kit !! it cant be that bad can it !! xx
 
Lets just say, if yu had asked before buying it, no-one on here would recomend a petrol gaylander :(. Doozils are the hippoo of choice. But as yu are a gurlee, the chances are you will get lots of offers of help. The peeps on here are either sad or perves- some of us are both :rolleyes:.
 
I think ive been blinded by it ! its just looks so lovely, i just wanted it, the outside and interior is just mint, think i will keep it for a while save some more dosh and get a doozil, im stickin with land rover !! until i can afford my range rover sport !!! lol wishful thinking !! saddo's and perv's sounds good to me !!! xx

Well...... If yu aint run screaming yet and you can put up with the weird (and male) sense of humour on here, i reckon yu will fit in just dandy. Learn to the work yoself and it will be fine.

ok just dropped it off at the garage, the mechanic bloke says if he takes off the vcu and the propshaft so i can send the vcu away for re conditioning the handbrake wont work ?? is that right ? dont want to get ripped off !!! or end up with no handbrake ? help please !!
 
Change your mechanic! He dont know Jack **** about Freelanders. The handbrake aint on the prop on Freelanders, only on "proppa" landrovers.
Be very wary of getting a "reconditioned" VCU. I aint convinced it can be done properly.
 
better still - ask him where the handbrake is on the prop shaft - when he cant find it - tell him he dont know Jack ;). You will know more than he does :D:D
 
Just run it without the props and VCU for the time being - it wont cause any probs unless you intend to off road it. It will give you time to think and figure out what you really want to do.
 
On a similar note - Maybe Bell Engineering (he is a member on here) can explain why as a "special offer" they are selling new VCU's ....

thank you !! can anyone recommend a good reliable 4x4 mechanic in the wast midlands birmingham area !!! will check out those websites MHM, have phoned the mechanic and told him he doesnt know jack !! obviously thinks im a stupid girly !! xx he obviously doesnt know i have landyzone as a secret weapon xxx
