Keycode Lockout ....BECMfault?

it seems to be a growing problem on here this, more and more people are having to send becm's off for a 'reboot' you'd think landrover could issue a cheap option to have the becm reconfigured for a token charge. after all companies who make computers and software are allways issuing updates and the tools(software) to accomplish these updates at home if your competant enough!! lr dont even issue the files that would be required to 'flash' the becm let alone make the programs available so we could in effect diy!!

My RR was taken off the road from new and dergistered and dvla issued a new chassis number. It took lr 2 days to find this out and they wouldn`t even give me the original chassis number so i could order parts!!
But like they say, " it`s not what you know......"coz i got it anyway! with a bit of diggin and a favour or two.

what puzzles me is the fact that they dont often generate money from the becm reprogram as most people send it off to independant specialist!!! they could get some cash from issueing the genuine stuff themselves!!

its no wonder the foreign car market is bigger than our dismal outlook!!

as for details of the vehicle YOU own, they have no right to withold it. i'm sure they live in a different world to the rest of us!!

well i got my BECM back last night, stuck it back in this morning, said the lords prayer and hey presto! she stated straight off,no code in and no resyncing,to say i was pleased would be an understatement.
chuffed to pieces with the bloke who did it,took it up to him and the next day it was done,so if anyone wants his number then PM me(he's based in bedfordshire)
but the moral of the story is dont let your battery go flat,i've invested in a power pack so i'll be prepared next time

hi,read your hand book regarding starting with a flat battery,i did not and went ahead and used a starter charger, this in turn buggered up the BECM so had to have it rebuilt,if the battery goes flat disconnect the leads from the battery and charge it up as normal.:mad:

does this also happen whe you jump start it? mines been fine so i'm guessing not but it would be worth seeing if anyone else has!!

does the fella remove the eka totally?

if you jump start your rangey and it is a diesel connect direct battery to battery,if its a petrol connect the neutral to an earth point on the engine, not the battery, this is according to the owners manual:)

thats a stroke of luck, i generally connect the chassis or wherever together, usually cos the leads are too bloody short. i also did this on rangey to omega cos i couldnt get them close enough together!!

i'm a genius and i didnt even know it!!!!!

Hi All

I did the reset on IPSOS's BECM. We are also able to do repairs to BECMs.

Do get in touch if this is a service you think you need.

With regard to the EKA code, it is not removable, but can be read, and I am pretty certain, changed to one that you might remember.

I have to say...There certainly does seem to be a lot of old wives tales in relation to some of the things the BECM does and doesn't do and how it works. Some of these seem to even be assisted by people at dealerships.

Have a look at www.landywiki.co.uk/index.php?title=BeCM as well as a load of information about the BECM there is also a write up of some work we did on my own BECM when my indicators went mad some years ago, way before I invested in RovaCom.

With regard to why don't Land Rover offer a BECM repair service? I suspect, that like most electronics on a car, the actual electronic 'black boxes' are built by companies like Bosch et al and actually Land Rover have no idea how to work on them. Certainly with regard to the BECM it is only down to companies like BlackBox Solutions (authors of RovaCom) and their inginuity at working out what microprocessor is used in the BECM, and by trial and error working what hex codes relate to what bits of information, that we have any way of working on these at all. It is fact that TestBook is far less powerful and flexible than RovaCom or some of the other non-Land Rover diagnostic tools.

If you are having trouble with your BECM do drop me a line , I am more than happy to share my knowledge and thoughts.

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy.R, i wish i`d waited a couple of days before sending the lot off to Hereford and seen your post. Currently still waiting for the BeCM to return (was promised it by Friday but hasn`t arrived yet) Had to have the circuit board replaced as part of it was burnt out!
If you could PM your number to me, any more probs and i`d pay you to have a look( i prefer someone local to posting these things half way across the country)
Can you remap ecu`s aswell?

STILL WAITING!!!! BeCM still not back! and i see someone else is still waiting for theirs back from Mtechuk
Might still have a use for that hammer after all!!!

Just to be on the safe side....in case your BECM has got "Lost", you need to get down your Main Stealer, armed with your log book + I.D. and get them to find out the Lockset Key Code (Around 14 digits long) and the EKA code (If you don't have it).
This will enable another (Used or new) BECM to be reprogrammed to your car. off the car, and it will then be a case of "Plug & Play" with the reprogrammed BECM. If you decide, in the worst case scenario to just get another BECM..make sure you get the key(s), door , ignition and glove box locks with it as without the lockset code it will not work on your car with your key

Nothing to stop you doing that I suppose Gav. as the exciter coil around the ignition switch just prompts the fob to send it's code and if it matches that stored in the BECM, all systems are go. The important thing is that the lockset code stored in the BECM is identical to the code transmitted by the fob. This code cannot be changed in the BECM unless the unit is electronically unlocked and access to the main CPU is required to do this...see Blackbox website, module SM035 for more info.

was just thinking it may be easier to get becm and key and have them programmed rather than whole lock set, deffo be cheaper and easier to install!

Yes, I agree but as far as I am aware, and despite what they say on the Egay listings, the keyfobs can only be programmed by Huf and the Main Stealers send them to Germany. They will not reprogramme used (Second hand) keyfobs.

BeCM is on it`s way(apparently) so all being well, should be back up and running this w/end.
Not sure how to get new fobs though coz it looks like the becm & engine ecu have been changed ( yellow writing on both) at some point and the fobs are linked to the becm. How do i find out what to order cos L/rover use the chassis number to order keys and they are non-returnable and take 3 weeks to order? Any ideas gents?
