I wouldnt call it dog rough either...i was attempting to show him something similar, a 200tdi with a lift, snorkel etc...for 3 grand less than the original one...something he can use off road and on for far less money...

but but

the other one's got shiny paint and nice blue springs .....

hmmm other than that not much difference

i paid a alot for my new one recently, a 93 CSW 200TDI but it had been rebuilt up in 2005 with galvanised chassis and bulkhead, new doors new interior. Like a new car.
but im a firm believer in "you get what you pay for"

It just strikes me as odd when someone is considering buying something like that but is concerned about a few spots of rust on the shocks....its personal choices i guess but i'd rather spend far less and not be too concerned about bumps, lumps and dents...and take it out to play without worrying.

I really dont understand why you'd give so much for a vehicle with lots of bells and whistles that you aren't going to use...maybe i'm being tough on him and he does intend to give it its legs off-road...but i can imagine his enjoyment will be tempered by the worry about whether its going to get dirty/wet/dented/broken..

To be honest..it'd frustrate the hell out of me if i owned something that i couldn't/daren't use..
I ramp the bollox out of my Landys mate ;) But why would would i pay top doller for some thing that isn't in top nick.
And im not afraid to get them dirty/beat up.....trust me.
