Hello LandyZone!

Firstly, I'd like to extend thanks to all members and site admin. These pages have been a most valuable resource for me over the last 8 months. Particular thanks to all those sharing their Freelander woes and remedies.

Secondly, the introduction. I'm weemac, the proud keeper of a 2002 Freelander S. Bought for £500 in running and MOT'd condition with no mods. Sunroof with no water ingress, central locking working all round, electric windows all functioning, starts on the button.

Inevitably, it wasn't all rosy. A pathetically small battery which, when taken to where we live in the Welsh valleys, didn't last long. 1,200 ft above sea level and sub-zero mornings gave it a beasting on cold starts and cell failure eventually took the alternator out. I mean, set it on fire. Seriously. It doesn't help that one of the glow plugs has snapped off (thanks PO).

Since then; gert new battery, Valeo alternator, repair/rust prevention to rear door handle mounting, complete rear brake replacement (drums, shoes, springs, cylinders, hoses, pipes, unions and fluid bleed), stealth EGR blank, air manifold cleanse and gerenal de-caking of everything I can unbolt and reach, repair to fuel rail pressure sensor wiring loom that had been pinched between the air manifold and head (thanks again PO), PCV cyclone mod, full OEM service kit, injectors out and nozzles cleaned, Italian tune up, vacuumed out the dog hair and animal bedding (!).

You lot gave the confidence to endure that baptism of fire. Many, many thanks.

:D

Welcome Weemac.
You're definitely in the best place for anything green oval related.
I'll admit, I used to make the odd 'Gaylander' joke, but in all fairness, I was considering downsizing and going for a Freelander 1 Td4 myself (although, ended up keeping my D2 and downsizing my other car instead), and with all the research I did etc, realised how capable they really are.
Not as many mods as we've got for Defenders and Discovery's, but there are some good ones to look at. If you can find my thread in the Freelander pages, someone posted a link to a good site for mods.

The main thing is, enjoy your Landy, and enjoy the site.

Welcome:)

Sounds as if you have got to know it quite well in the few short months:eek:

Jokes? I thought it was all serious stuff on here;)

Are you sure they were dog hairs, and that it hadn’t been used as a mobile hair salon:eek::D (sorry:))
Enjoy.

They're pretty capable trucks. Not had it on anything heavier than a rural track yet as it's currently 2WD. Got the knackered prop shaft and VCU but one step at a time, eh? Crucially, I've got somewhere for my right elbow. ;)

Yep, mobile dog grooming by the looks of it.
Throw in all the jokes and banter you like. I'm game. Been on the VW T4 forum for a while and it's far too serious and arsey for my liking. Much more comfortable here :)

Welcome to the forum

Eh, that sounds good.
Not sure how capable the old dog is just yet, still 2WD. It'll make it to the pub though :D

Photo is up near the Keepers, on the road to the Foxhunter car park.
