Under my landy
Hi,

Has anyone else had any problems getting insurance after converting to the 200di engine? My current under-writers won't touch it, they are now looking for new quotes but as it is a pick-up cab it ahs to go down as a commercial vehicle, i did say i could put a different roof on, but it has to be 'as manufactured'. I did say it's 46 years old and had no idea how it was manufactured, but, they weren't having it.

As there are so many 200tdi conversions i would have thought insurance was pretty standard on them!? (currently trying lancaster as my current insurer, i am aware of all the other landy specialists and if needed will try them later, was just after inital thoughts from people and problems encounted / solutions round the problem)

bin your current insurers,if theyre having trouble even getting you a quote whats gonna happen if you need to claim!
i use adrian flux aswell, they know what theyre on about and are pretty cheap too, when i put the V8 in the 2a they just asked what engine and what size,i think i payed about £140 fully comp on a limited mileage policy. and i think if you tell them your a member on landyzone you get discount(i read it on a thread on here somewhere)

Fair enough, it does just sound like my ins. company are a bit crap. Did think it was a bit odd that they hadn't come across a very common engine swap before.

I'll wait until i've actually sorted the conversion then swap it over, i won't be driving it in the mean time and i assume if a land rover with no engine is knicked off my drive the ins. company still pay out.

hi just finished putting 200 tdi into my petrol 90 phoned my insurance (Lancaster) wanted year of manufacture of new engine and cc .
said they would phone me after consulting underwriter .
sat thinking here we go gona get well and truly stuffed
phoned back ten mins later said same price .20 quid for paperwork.
result

Cheap insurers dont seem to like mods, everything has to tie up with the computer, otherwise 'computer says no'.
I use a local broker, I think the underwriter is norwich union, but they werent bothered about the engine swap, 'box, axles, they never even mentioned the V5, all they asked was the engine fuel type and cc's.
Brokers put there bit on top but they will faff about a bit to get the business, mine was under 200 quid.
I wouldnt be so sure about insurance paying out if the landy gets nicked without the motor, they try to get out of anything if they can, esp if they are useless. If it goes missing dont mention the engine tell em it was complete.

After a little while they came back to me, will increase my premium by £40 though forgot to ask for my 10% off for being in (multiple) landy clubs, so will add £20 overall, so not a massive issue.
