but yes your right they only make one batch up to fill one small bottle ever heard the saying a bad batch before ??

as i said you can take things to ridiculous scenarios but priming the turbo with fresh oil is all thats needed and recommend

ever heard of the phrase .. ITS A BAD BATCH ???
as for ridiculous scenarios I have to deal with many types of intelligent people day and night

for example getting called out through the night because they are leaking diesel onto the ground ..when I get there the diesel leak has turned into a coolant leak in yet the same guy was big noting him self 12 hours earlier

What were they doing putting either diesel or coolant in their turbos? now I am confused,............

anyone in the trade gets poor self diagnoses from customers the skill is asking the right questions so you are prepared

that's all well said and good but recently I have just rebuilt a duetz engine for a wet plant ..the guy who fitted the engine complained the engine has to much of a high compression due to a flat battery

I've never had any dirty or contaminated oil that I've bought new and sealed. I fill my engines via the oil cap so any crud would go straight into the engine the wrong side of the filter anyhow. Filling or not the oil filter would not prevent any of that. Clean oil in the turbo bearing inlet is what I've always done then crank over until oil pressure comes up. Only then start the engine and as said don't thrash it until it's at least warmed up. I've always disconnected the injector loom to stop the engine firing. But I did have a Nanocom to clear any codes after. Has worked for me for more years than I can remember. Just saying.

If the new oil has such a high risk of contamination what happens when we put it into the engine at oil change time? Ive never seen anyone put it through a filter before using it, and Ive never found contaminated oil in a new pack.
If you take the sump off an engine which has done 50K miles and look in there then look into a new pack of Castrol GTX I have a strong feeling I know which would be cleaner and which one has the best bet of supplying clean oil.

I guess the point is when we pour in new oil it drops straight down to the sump and then gets pumped through the filter before heading off to delicate bits.

Can't say I've ever fretted about new oil but good luck trying to prefill a Series filter inside or outside

Yes that's true, but no filter is ,ever removes 100% of the contamination, if you change your oil then run the engine for 5 minutes dip the oil and look at the oil on the stick, it's picked up some colour which will never be taken out by a filter.

Thanks for the (mostly) helpful suggestions. On the basis this isn't a NASA mission i'll just use new oil. I think it's passed someone's bedtime

Are you 100% sure that's the right decision? maybe you could filter it through some charcoal or summat first

I would use an old smelly sock, as long as it does not have any holes....If there are then get Granny to darn it for you........Its what I use to filter my new fresh engine oil before I put it into the engine after an oil and filter change...................Honest.

The trouble is finding a reputable supplier quality charcoal - anyone can say something is charcoal but without chemical analysis how can we ever be 100% sure. If substandard charcoal is used it just defeats the object of the exercise.
