Was driving on an A road this morning, doing 40 mph (40 limit) and I had a bus driver indicate and pull straight out infront of me from the bus stop set back from the carriage way, obviously being a bus driver means that indication gives you right of way... Anyway, I jumped on the brakes and the horn simultanously and in doing so a tiny little plastic clip on the indicator stalk pinged across the cab and left the stalk hanging limp from the steering column. No more indicators for the rest of the journey, fortunately the roads were quiet so no need for hand signals. I bodged together a 'fix' for my journey home, connect the middle wire to the left one = indicating left, connecting the middle to right = indicating right. There's definitely something to be said for simple vehicles and minimal electrickery.

Probably more reliable than the original and looks good to o_O

On a side note while buses haven't got an absolute right of way the Highway Code does state they have to be given priority whenever safe to do so especially when pulling out from stops

Cheers guys, a replacement stalk is in the post, should be fixed by the weekend.

If the bus stop is on the carriageway and traffic has to go round it, then yes that's fairly sensible but when the bus stop is a layby so the bus isn't presenting itself as an obstacle in the road then pulling out infront of a moving vehicle is just being a twunt.

I never said anything about sensible. :p

Highway Code 223
Buses, coaches and trams. Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops. Look out for people getting off a bus or tram and crossing the road.

In other words if you see a bus indicating to pull out and you don't give it priority if its safe to do so then karma will make your indicator stalk explode :D

Shoddy standards if you ask me, anyone with any degree of common sense would have used colour coded wires - red for left and green for right (like boat and aircraft position lights) and black common. :D:D
