Hi guys.

I have just noticed i have a indicator fault on my dash.

I haven't done anything to my defender so its not like i have disturbed anything.

When i indicate the trailer light comes on with the indicator light for just one flash and then the indicator dash light blinks as normal.

When i put the hazards on just the trailer light on the dash lights up.

All exterior lights work as they should its just the dash lights that are the problem.

My landy is a 1998 300tdi 110.

Mine does that, its working correctly.

When I put the hazards on, the trailer light flashes on each blink, so normal. Also the direction arrows and the hazard indicator flashes on the dash. I suspect you have only got a problem with the direction indicators and hazard indicator on the dash.
Mine is a 2012 but suspect it is the same operating mode as yours.
 
Check your trailer socket connecto, by the tow hook, to see if it is full of crap and corrosion from the pins. You might be getting a slight short across the pins.

I think the hazard warning light operation has varied over the years, if the hazard light switch has a build bulb then that flashes and / or the trailer warning light. Either way there has to be a warning light somewhere to show hazards are on

The light inside my switch flashes.
 
With the trailor pluged in both trailer and indicator lamps should flash more or less together when indicating.Trailer dash lamp only flashing once usualy means the trailer lamp is not working but I have also found that sometimes the trailer lamp is flashing when the dash lamp is not. I think this may be due to a poor or short connection somewhere not triggering the dash lamp to flash.

Do you have LED indicator lamps on the trailer? If so the load might not be high enough for the relay to detect a trailer is connected.

No, it's a very old Erde trailer.
It's always done that with whatever trailer I've had on. The trailer light never flashes unless there is a trailer on. Then it does it once on the first flash.
 
Just had a quick look at mine ...
