After locking my keys in me Landy the other day and managing (with very little effort) to open the drivers door with a filing cabinet key  I thought I should consider some security.

Should I go for an immobiliser and new locks (chubb or similar)?

or

An alarm/immobiliser and not bother about the locks?

Has anyone got any good suggestion for suitable reliable products.

Cheers guys

I have a Toad 606i alarm and immobiliser.

NFU give me a 10% discount and it seems to work well. Has all sorts of functions for zones and types of detection. Can also integrate into remote central locking using the same plip.

Fit an approved alarm and change the lock barrels for new ones.
Also fit a hidden cut off switch for your fuel pump.
I have a switch which interupts the wiring to my ECU and my TD5 90 has a Landrover fitted immobiliser.
Nothing is perfect but it may delay the scumbags just enough that they go elsewhere.
If you make the locks look like fort knox then they think you've got something to hide. Land rover doors also fold down from the top so theres no point in going over board with the locks.

Good thread! Im also worried about my 90 soft top:( Im not sure if you get an alarm system of any good which will work with the flappy soft top.It may be that mechanical devices are the only option but that wont stop the scumbags nicking the cb etc:mad:

Try Clifford Alarms for your soft top...they seem pretty good...but ain't cheap I'm afraid.

I'm just choosing the security for my new Defender too...thinking Full Metal Jacket, steering lock (full wheel one) and a mechlock. It has the standard LR alarm and immob too.
