I'm doing Morocco in September / October :)

We did the Marrakesh Classic with Trailmasters last year, and it was amazing! John does a fantastic job, really looks after you so you can actually enjoy your holiday instead of worrying about little things in a strange place. Wifey was a bit concerned it would be a bit of a gunho offroaders fes' but it certainly wasn't and she ended up doing most of the driving.

Just make sure your truck is up together as it will take a pounding. 3 of our group all had bearing failures in pullies due to the dust so make sure they are all good, and of course coolent hoses as they will be working at high temps. Quite nice to drive with windows down instead of aircon but be prepared for alot of dust in the cabin so take one of those duster mits.

Roof tents were great but practice packing them away as you will be breaking camp in the dark so it pays to be organised. A Jetboil is a worthy buy as you can knock up a brew in no time and enjoy your surroundings. I had a Coleman Dual Fuel stove and by the time I had put it together, pumped it up, got the flame going, John was walking past sniggering with his steamy mug in hand! A fridge is another expensive treat but it needs to be a good one and you need a good aux battery. We had a Weaco but they still use twice the power of an Engel and it basically killed my aux battery. Bare in mind that it can be 60degC in the cabin when you stop which means it will be working hard.

Have a great time and don't be surprised if it changes your life, it did me :)

I'm currently looking into a trip to Iceland and found that MPS Trading (main Engel dealer) is now offering a hire service. I strongly reccomend you consider this as these fridges are the best for the job. With one of these you will be able to have a full fry up breakfast deep in the desert half way through your trip - it will be the best breakfast ever! Not forgetting reliably cold beers for the whole trip.
 
Providing my Defender is running :p and im free I was thinking of going around that time too.

However may be doing Norway instead.. Though id rather be hot with a window open than in subzero with ****ty heating!

Looking forward to it... keep buying new toys for the Disco slowly getting it all ready, although, it will be going for a major, major service before we go and having lots changed... just in case.

Although i wish people would stop crashing into me in car parks :mad:
 
Sounds great. I booked with trailmasters in 1999, or thereabouts. I was living with my girlfriend at the time (now my wife and with three kids), she needed a visa as she wass not british. We are still waiting! They would not give her one at the time as she was unmarried and bosnian!

So we never did go, so I am envious!

We do however live in Jordan now and have travelled well in many other countries.

Aircon can kill you too !! It slowly dehydrates you but your not thirsty cos it's a comfy 18°C so don't feel it happening !!

Been 2 times to Morocco with 3 kids (youngest 6 years old) in the height of summer (July/August) with no aircon and never had a problem . You need a fridge & drink loads & loads of water !!

I'm looking at going to Morocco similar time to you, Apologies as I haven’t fully read your post but are booking with a tour company or going it alone so to speak? I may be interested in coming along with you if you wouldn’t mind although I'm not 100% yet as I have a rather expensive house build currently taking place.

As it stands at the minute, I'm also going on this trip to Morocco with Bump in Oct.
I say 'at the minute' because there is a possibility I may have to cancel depending on the outcome of a job I've applied for.

If this is the case, I will be advertising my place in this thread, as I've paid a deposit and secured a place.
I doubt there are any more spaces left on this particular trip.

I'm hoping it doesn't come to this, but I'll know one way or another in the next 3-4 weeks and will update accordingly. :)

Glenn, we're going with a company called Trailmasters, decided for the first Overland trip it would be good to have the support and local knowledge of a tour company and guides (although personally I'd happily go for anything on my own, when taking the missus too, i have to make sure everything works as it should)

If you're interested you could give them a shout, or, keep an eye open on a slight chance that Mark's place becomes available.

I fully understand the risks with aircon - i drink so much water (or tea) as it is I don't see it being an issue for me. I'll have my hydra pack rigged up behind me so will be continously sipping the whole tour :D
Nice work taking kids with you... we are going with the option of enjoying things like this pre-kids!

It is the Atlantic Sahara tour end October / start November

my missus is coming as is another friend of mine who is coming... so... she'll have plenty of company to talk about handbags and shoes... or whatever it is that women seem to spend hours on the phone talking about.

If you are interested give John a ring - he is a really nice guy and will talk you through your vehicle suitability, etc. (it's not about off-road mods, more about reliability, etc.)
