right.
just going to "try" to put on my steering guard and found a missing bush, also the culprit of my mystery clunk i think.

The bush in question is the one that's connected to the bracket that clamps around the steering box.

any ideas?

the ruddy bolts wouldnt come out either. but thats another story, blowtorch next!!!

if your refering to bracket that holds panhard rod and a bracket from steering box ,its not supposed to have a bush just a large hole and washer so that steering box is supported laterally large hole allows for imperfect postioning of parts

Erm, possibly, still getting to grips with the varous names and bits on the fenders suspension
anyway, a picture paints a thousand words, so here, this bit...

phew, no need to panic then. was getting worried at needing to get it done for going on holiday next week.

does look like a bush hole though... only land rover would just make a big hole to make up for "tolerence"

Do you have the nut and washer that screws on to that part you're pointing at?
If not, and I suspect it's snapped off, then you have found ya mystery clunk.

Have a look at this for comparison (not the black pointy arrow. To the left of piccie, in front of spring) .

there we go, knew it wouldnt be that simple, nope, there is no nut and bolt, it was found exactly as I pointed at it in the pic.

new bracket then?

Dont need a new bracket just knock the broken bolt out and replace.
Sometimes they need a bit of a persuade as the bolt rusts into the tube through the chassis. It will come out eventually. If you can get some decent heat onto it that will help to free it.

Oooops just had a second look at your pic and its not the bolt I was referring to thats busted. Ignore the above. New bracket needed.
