... that the wife just got a call from the hospital.
Her Mum (who they gave a GA to yesterday to work on her leg) is now today going downhill fast and she had better get there ASAP. Not looking good at all.

Wife is there with the MIL, as are 2 grandchildren.
Her Son (who was told first) had not yet put in an appearance.
He is closer to the hospital than we are , so I am baffled.

OK, the old gal has rallied a bit, still very much "on the edge" but we will see what happens overnight.

Plant pots is ideal for weeds to grow. Only way to deal with them is to pull them out when they appear. (In my opinion of course, I ain't Percy Thrower).

You can get all sorts of weed preventing materials some of which come in circles with a slot cut in to go around your plants. W uses them for the strawbs in her raised beds. She has a constant battle with slugs and so far this year has used sand, coffee grains, dried branches from roses and brambles, if you don't have dogs you can use slug pellets, planting marigolds and/or geraniums, they hate them and won't go near them. They don't like the smell of even dead marigolds.
You can buy copper strip with adhesive on the back which if you stick carefully around outside of the pot below the level of any overhanging flower stems. W finds this very good and the srtips last up to 3 or 4 years if peoperly applied.
So there you have it gardening tips from W!!!
We also go out at night with torches and the ones we find either get deaded with salt ofr thrown to the hens who love eating them!!!

The GA on monday has brought on delirium in the old gal (it often happens when they have dementia in the first place).
Her kidneys are shot from weeks and weeks of vancomycin, her o2 sats are too low and she won't keep the mask on.
Her BP is erratic and there's no good news. They want to move her from a treatment pathway to a "comfort" one.
My Wife & her brother agree that it is the kindest thing so that's it. Very sad.
A game old bird till the end. I hope she gently slips away without discomfort.

Sounds like they treat a sore with a plaster while around her is a disaster. Wouldn't surprise me if the vultures of surgical consultants are circling. The poor thing has a myriad of conditions that prevent recovering quickly for a quality of life. Being in hospital is an illness for long periods as mobility issues hinder progress.
Not able to mentally cope as well because of dementia effectively making a safety net available nil.
While infection after infection and the treatment must seem to her as violation and not a cure.
Then we have the drugs used to chemical cosh for an already deteriorated patient, especially as they know she's suffering with dementia. This must be torture for you and your wife to witness a dearly loved one put through the ringer.
