.... that the helicoil repair was eventually successful. :D
1st go would not let the bolt thread in.
Managed to prise the tip of the coil up and pulled it back out. Phew!
Recut the thread for the helicoil and washed the hole out with brake cleaner and it worked fine.
Lots of faffing to get the bolts the right length so they had decent thread purchase and yet did not bottom out in the casting hole.
Reconnected all the plumbing and ran it up to temp. No leaks. :D
Went for a little blast....... still no leaks. I'm calling that a fix then. :D

Eye has just found a deaded squirrel at the bottom ov me garden. Lay onnits back. Gorra black bin bag and me glove and picked it up viv bag inside out. It had one front toof missing. No damage so not sure if attacked. Were out in the open where eye sometimes find deaded birds. Not sure iffits my squirrel. Looked a bit rougher looking. Eye said a few words to see it onnits way and purrit in me wheely bin to keep it safe from the foxes. Eye is sad. :(

We got one too, works fine. The password, as you've probably already found is on a removable plastic tab on the back so at least you take it away and sit down with your machines and do the biz. Unless the noo model don't have it in which case..... time to write it down.:eek::eek:

Wasnt too much bother tbh, apart from the security cams which the camera has to scan the QR code & wouldnt reset so I had to
reboot the system, camera scanning camera scanning, connection failed connection failed for 1/2 n hour :mad: nearly connected
to my boot right out the back door. 🤣🤣

Knew you'd have trouble wiv the helicoil. They is a total pain. I have had the bolt go round and round taking the helicoil with it so you couldnt get the blasted thing out to remove whatever you want to remove, without cutting the head off the bolt.:mad:

But very glad you have sorted out the leak or whatever. Hope it runs better now it's getting properly hot.👍👍👍

Glad you got it done
The bolt holes usually go all the way through, they get crusty at the bottom due to rusty water and block up below the bolt.
Yours may not be drilled and tapped all the way though, not sure if all were the same

Thanks! All you lovely folks are so encouraging and helpful. I last "spannered" over 50 years ago and only simple stuff like valve regrinding/lapping, no engine or gearbox rebuilds. Just trying to keep junkers on the road as a 18..20YO with no money.

Fire up the bbq and wrap the bugger in tin foil before cooking cos if you try and cook it in a bin bag it will spoil the meat

My first two cars were both Minis. 850 de luxes, the first one was bought on my behalf by my mother as I was working antisocial hours so couldn't go looking. she paid half as much again as I said was my max, and bought a Mini that had just had a "blow over". They must have laughed! I was then 17.
It had an MOT that must have been bent. There was a fist sized rust hole not far behind the B post on the inside. She said nothing when I pointed it out to her. As I drove it more and more rust appeared. But the engine was very healthy, went much better than it should have done. So my life fixing cars began.
I bought another and this time had a garage look it over. It was bodily far better but jumped out of two gears! I swopped lots of bits over but had no facilities to be able to swop the engine and gearbox which would have transformed it. Life with Minis ended the moment I ran this one into a tree on the inside of a tight bend on a road I didn't know. I still managed to drive it from about Castle Combe to Bath though. But the subframe was bent.
So that was that until I bought the more recent one and transformed it with the MG Metro engine.
But ever since the first Minis I have been spannering. So I am somewhat surprised that you gave it up, being a dedicated banger motorist myself, until finally I got enough dosh together to be able to get into kit cars. The money I must have saved over the years!!
I will have to go over to the other thread to find out how much better it is running with a proper cooling system! :):):)

Morning All. :D
A dull start to the day weatherwise and an amusing start for me personally. :)
I had fed 2 of the cats their spot of cream that they enjoy and the third cat who doesn't like cream was eyeing me belligerently as if to say "what about me you old git?" So dutifully I got the megatub of 'Dreamie' cat treats from the cupboard and put 4 or 5 out on the newspaper next to the cat on the worktop. As I went to put the lid back on I somehow managed to snap the rim around the lid, this is all that gives it any strength and so it collapsed inwards with an audible "crack". As it did so I made an involuntary clutching motion as it felt like the tub was slipping out of my hand. And BOOM hundreds of cat treats all over the floor.
The noise startled all 3 cats who instantly fled, leaving me to survey the scene around me in dismay.
5 minutes on my hands and knees sweeping up cat treats makes your knees go "pop". ;)
Have a great day. :D
