Some old skool solenoids had the ability to push the button in the middle so you don’t need an assistant ;).

Doubt there’s many of them about these days, shame really, but then a spanner/screwdriver works too:p.

Yep, I have one on my oldest kit car, and yes, sadly, they don't make 'em anymore!
You could always fit some sort of switch or rig a temporary one, peeps who came to your house to tune your car used to have push button ones they plugged in.
I have seen kit cars with all sorts of stuff under the bonnet. apart from lights, I've seen instruments and switches. Mostly to help when tuning.

Does anyone else use Ocado?

We got fed up of the quality of the veg and the narrowing of certain ranges from Waitrose, who we have had delivering ever since lock-down.
Sick of having to go out to Tescos and or Marks and Sparks to get better stuff on top of the order.
We used them for the first time last week and were impressed, so we have another order coming tomoz and another the following week. ;)
Any opinions?:stars:

Discovered a "Vegan" product in a cupboard in our kitchen the other day!!!

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

W had not realised either.
It was onion gravy. Still in a Bisto jar, sitting there in the row with all the others.

"INFIDEL!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:
Wearing your "Vegan" green bit on the label. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:"

And it gets worse.......

We had used it!:eek::eek::eek:

A few times!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

And the very worst........

It tasted all right!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

OK, I suppose onions are veg, so.... OK. We won't throw it out.

Just checked, the Beef and the Lamb ones both say "With real meat juices"!!!! (This is telling isn't it? )

BUT....... the chicken one is "CHICKEN FLAVOURED GRAVY" WITH A RICH ROASTED FLAVOUR.

MEAT FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it DOESN'T say "VEGAN"!!!!!!!

Is this a good reason for not sticking with Waitrose?

(🤣🤣🤣🤣)

Hi Stan, a proper strobe light is on order (fancy one with RPM and what looks like dwell angle functions).
The biggest issue for me is that the car appears to be a "bitser" and I have no idea what the component parts are and/or how well suited to one another they are. It is always a bit disconcerting to find components like dizzy's with no labels and out of eyeshot identifiers with wires not connected and just "taped up" and joints made up from spade terminal sets (M/F) in wires and similarly poorly insulated.
What I find most alarming is the overwhelming stench of petrol inside the cabin (good job I do not smoke).
In my fumblings yesterday I discovered plug 1 was wet and clean (its HT lead was hanging loose/not making proper contact) while plugs 2,3 & 4 were sooted up. Gaps were 35 thou' which may or not be good (depends on coil energy and timing etc.).
I will have a look at it today (while the battery is being re-charged). As you say, it's not a disaster, just annoying.

Sounds like a leaky pump, maybe in also the petrol feed hoses/unions ...

As has been mention, too many Heinz 57 bits from British Leyland cars don't always mix and play well ...

TBH it makes very little sense to me too! :) 12.57v on one side and my earthed jumper wire on the other.
I really don't want to load & fire the parts cannon.
More prodding & poking required.
I did try starting it a short while ago and it did fire up, but died again within 2-3 seconds and would not restart.
Instead of a silly little test lead I will try a battery jumper cable from the system earth to the coil.
There's something a bit fishy about this for sure. Thanks for helping.
I'd be looking at fuel. Spray some carb cleaner / easy start etc/ into the carb see if it runs
Theres a little filter in top of float bowl might be blocked, rubbers in fuel line may be perished and porous, mech fuel pump (if it has one) may be goosed etc
