As much as I say and agree gate valve are carp the 1s on you pump should be good enough to remove the body of the pump. As Grundfos (colour gives it away) keep the same body size for most normal sized heating pumps it’s also an easy swap.
I won’t comment on why you have so much pipe size reduction cos I am not a pro, but I wouldn’t do it.

Even though we can’t get them here if I need to get into our pump I have ball valves to isolate and only lose about half a litre, and bleeding out after is simple.
Did I mention I wasn’t a plumberer but I have a welding helmet, auto 1 it is too ;)

A lot of the pipework is 22 mm going down to 15 mm I think for the tails to the rads, but not sure, can't quite remember.
The house is a Swedish designed one, timber framed. W and her ex bought it brand new. It was one of the first, sort of a show house as there are three types on the estate. The Swedes brought them over from Swedeland and built them to show the Brit trades how to do it, and I dunno who the plumbers were, but it was the original plumbers who fitted the CH. TBH it has worked brilliantly up to now, which makes me think it can't be anything too dramatic that has gone wrong.

(I too have an auto welding helmet!;))

You can call me cheap but I take pics on my DSLR and only use my mobile as a back up or for safety when on the road.
Or if I have to when a frog delivery person needs to contact me, and then I have to use a French number anyway. I only got a smart mobile when Covid was big and you had to constantly prove, through the NHS app, that your jabs were up to date. Which is why I got a secondhand one.
I'd like one that takes two Sims so I could have a Frog one and a Brit one in it, like my Tesco mobile PAYG which is so cheap and reliable.
W has promised to buy me a new lappy up to what I think is a large sum of dosh for my Xmas and 70th burfday pressies, I will have to see if she'll "wear" the idea of a cheaper one and a mobile.

Sim free means yer fone ain't locked to one netwurk provider.

Both A16 and A55 are dual sim according to the spec sheets above. Thas dual physical sim. Some new fones can take an eSim, which is a software coded key string wiv passwurd to create a virtual sim.

Yer can enable/dusable each sim for different fings. Like only using sim1 to make calls. Or enable both so it asks yer which sim, when making a call.

TBH we never have just the hot water on, we are never here when it is warm enough for that. So I daresay that valve gets little or no use unless when the cylinder is not asking for heat, it closes it, but I don't see how that can happen. I confess that when I was failing to get hot water I did switch the system to "HW only" to try and encourage it to work. (Before I found the gate valve that had been closed and didn't seem to want to move! I can see the face you are pulling from here! 🤣 )
I have played with the lever underneath without knowing exactly what it is supposed to do, it has a kind of hook thing that you can hook it behind I think, to keep it in one position?

You can just about make out the little lever on the bottom of the valve, to the right.
The pipe from the top of the motorised valve goes to the coil in the cylinder, the other one goes off to the CH rads. etc.
Funnily, this valve has been making noises for a long time now, when the plumber, the good one I mentioned earlier, came to change the tank I did mention to him the noise it made and that maybe it might be a good idea to change it, but he wouldn't have it! TBH it wouldn't make the noise for him!
I have found that if the noise is too annoying, (Our bedroom is just to the left) I could stop it making the noise or lessen it if I pushed the little lever to the left and held it there for a while.

That valve is a honeywell 3 port on a y plan system, the little leaver on the bottom manually moves it over to heating you push it over then let it come back to hook in the little slot try that and if heating works the syncron motor is gone not so easy to change as its facing away from you but you can take the cover off and there is two captive screws that undo and the motor head comes of, then you can get to the very small screw to remove the motor, the new motors come with a screw and the electrical connectors to change it. https://www.screwfix.com/p/drayton-synchronous-motor/28670

I've been and tried to hook the lever back into its little slot and for some reason it won't stay in place. But that doesn't matter as all we ever want is for the system to be on HW and CH together. so tomoz I'll find a way of keeping it in place, clamp or summat. After that I'll be able to see what difference that makes.

seeing as how I plumbed in everything in our house in France I'd not quite agree with this.
Also I have done tons of work on both HW and CH systems in four Brit houses.
BUT although one of my rules is to always put the plug in when working over a sink......
.... I forgot cos I was pooped off by W's inaccurate description of the problem. So working on a very simple problem more or less without thinking.
Not really a plumbing mistake, more a common sense mistake. But yes, I should have put the little discs on the correct sides.
Yes, I have to admit I am not fond of plumbing. ;)

We can all laugh but this nearly happened to me.

Not my fault, honest guv.
I had to leave my dad in my house when I went off on a course. He was supposed to get himself off out of the place and just slam the door behind him. He was in the dining room with the gas fire on. I showed him how to turn it off.

I got back a week later, during the week my ex had been going to the house to feed the cat.
She told me that she went to the house and could smell the gas from the street.
My old man had somehow managed to turn the fire off then back on again, without lighting it.

Bearing in mind that the CH boiler was in the chimney/fireplace behind the gas fire in question. With its pilot light lit.

Boy did I give him a mouthful, somehow he didn't seem to think it was such a big deal! :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I do sometimes wonder when I will run out of stories against myself!!

But can anyone explain WHY tesco are so set on this? Are the islanders suddenly going to spend thousands of pounds more than their usual weekly spend? Other than increasing the wage bill, I see no benefit....for anyone.
