Waiting for that special friend with a jar of KY Jelly.

...that I had a very good experience at a hearing centre today. Ear exam, wax removal and hearing test £90.

Comment was that my ear canals are exceptionally small/narrow, so more easily blocked and harder to clear.
Left ear all clear, no suction needed, eardrum free and clear.
Right ear totally blocked and 25 minutes of work to remove old, hard, black and dried out wax.
Took him 3 applications of mist spray olive-oil to soften it. It broke up into bits and one was across the ear canal and was particularly hard to remove. No pain or discomfort at all throughout the process.

All done and the eardrum is uncovered, undamaged and free of obstruction.

Saw the pictures of before and after, and the huge plugs of wax that didn’t go up the microbore hoover but came out stuck to the end of it (1/2” long and shaped like a trumpet). :(
Hearing test showed both ears are the same and there is only age related hearing loss in the mid and higher frequencies.
Certainly good to be able to hear in the right ear again.

His instructions are to keep the ear dry for 72 hours so new fresh wax can coat and protect the newly exposed surfaces.

Advice was that I am not in need of any hearing aids at this time, but I should monitor my hearing yearly and take action if there is a sharp decline. 😊

Your Doc missed out the important bit, “don’t tell the wife you can hear” ;).
