Thanks for that..dat is a data file. Should be able to open with word or notepad. May sow text but if its a dats file for a program to read or store data then it may be full of random characters.
.eml is an email saved as a text file. Word or notepad may be able to open them. Or email software like outlook.
I did get the .dat file open but it was just gobbledegook as you say full of random characters.
If an .eml is a text file then why on earth would anyone do this and not just simply write the flipping email? As I say it is a biot immaterial now but I might go back and see if I can open it with Word or Notepad.
