Due to the wild boar we have two hunts that pop them off, when they can. They don't exactly decimate the numbers though. So far they haven't bothered our land, but if a vine grower gets them in his land.....
THAY are becoming a big problem all over Europe some villages here cannot grow corps and are taking the government to court 😠😠

Morning All. :D
Awaiting the Amazon Santa with a replacement part for the Mini. :)
Currently one corner is up on an axle stand so I can worm my corpulent carcase under there. :)
I could have kicked myself y'day as the part that arrived was the wrong size. I had measured the exhaust pipe I could get at and it was 50mm, but I forgot that the pipe it inserts into will obviously be the next size up (52mm) so the U-Clamp would NOT fit. Grrr.
Still, we lived to fight another day so maybe I can fix it today. I am going to leave the temporary jubilee clips on the pipe just in case it loses the U-clamp again. Just for fun (and because the previous owners little girls have asked him whether "GWEN" is being looked after) I sent them this little picture.
Have a good day! :D

The instructions say it needs a 2kg cal weight. Which is not what she needs.
I have bought the wrong type, the range is too high, so I'll get on to them on Monday and see if they can sell me a more suitable one which comes with weights, which they do have in their catalogue. TBH if you dig into the description it did say "needs a 2000gm cal weight - not supplied". So my own stupid fault.

What is surprising is that it is pocket-sized yet will weigh objects up to 2 kgs. Makes you wonder what weighs that and has a base about 2" x 3". even a carriage clock is less than that! :vb-headbang:

Where we are, in a hugely forested area, they are not so much of a problem, but down in the wine producing areas they can cause terrible damage. A quick Google search shows how awful it is in Italy especially. Deer are a nuisance too and as you know we have had to protect our orchard etc from them.

Can't you just buy another U clamp from a local car parts shop? Surely this is something they all carry?

You know where thay have been it looks like a load of off roaders have driven through, but thay have my respect as I see the size of some of the boulders thay push around, would take a small digger to move them 😲😲

Compressed pack of drugs.

Ohhh yep. they is tough, mean, big beggars.
W once was driving back with a friend late in the evening, about 22 of them males, females babies trotted out of the forest in front of her car, carried on up the road, then trotted back into the forest a bit further up. I'd have loved to have seen a vid of it.

...that things go from bad to worse around here. :(
Fixed the exhaust on the Mini today and took it for a little run.
Came back and left it with bonnet open because I wanted to check for a "coolant weep" on the thermostat gasket.
Went back after the car had cooled down armed with some dry newspaper strips to poke in the area I thought I had seen a trace of coolant. While checking this I noticed that the new inline fool-filter looked empty (don't think it should be) because the pump is basically 2 1-way valves in/out so where can the fuel be going?
Pulled the dipstick and the level seems "up" and it is very clear (no carbon) and smells like petrol to me. 😢
Other than the smell, I don't know of an easy test for the presence of fuel in oil as both are flammable but one ignites a long time before the other.
EDIT:
I tried the drip-test of a couple of drops from the dipstick onto a piece of dry brown cardboard box.
The theory being that the petrol will spread out further as an outer ring as it is a lighter weight than the oil.
But I couldn't see any outer ring. This could mean its ok or mean nothing at all.

Only way petrol can get into the oil is via the mechanical fuel pump
Yup, it is a known issue and why many people blank the port off on the block and fit a solid state pump.
The pump was just rebuilt (by me from NOS MOD parts), but at 1975 vintage stock the 3 layer rubber diaphragm "could" just fail.
I have another brand new Chinese Cheapo and I could/can put that on tomorrow to see if things change. If I do that I will most likely run a lot of the piping in 6mm copper around the "hot-spot" area rather than risk rubber near the exhaust area.
Knocking the faults off one-by-one at least. :)
