Afternoon folks:)

Hope @WhiskyLassie enjoys her birthday weekend🎂.

Have been doing some bits outside but its cold even though the suns out. Had ice on the water in the pool cover last couple of days.
Probably get some more wood up to the porch tommoz its going down quicker, then plan some inside work:).

Been discussing crimbo dinner. I reckon we will be bubble & squeaking it with cold meat for at least a week, probably need a bigger table too:rolleyes::oops:.
Still its all going to get eaten one way or another so don't matter;).

While I was working on my Bonneville engine yesterday I noticed one of the camshaft bearings is shot. Its a phosphor bronze bush about an inch long and 7/8 inch bore, set into a blind hole. The tools needed to get it out (as per the workshop manual) are pricey, if you can find some, and doing the job "their"way can easily wreck the motor if it is not done with skill and care. So this morning I resorted to an old skool back street workshop method - cut some longitudinal slots in the bush with half a hacksaw blade (with the precision of a jeweller and care of a denterist), and collapsed the bush with some gentle prodding with a light hammer and screwdriver. Job done . New bush ordered and on the way -----.
Well you've foxed me there as that is what I would have done.
Never knew there was another way.
It would seem ignorance can sometimes be bliss! :)
But I expect you are glad to have done it without causing further damage.
Are you going to put the new one in the freezer before fitting it?
Is it one of those that needs to be soaked or boiled in oil first?
Hmm!!

Well there is a big choice of places to eat there, it would appear from the website. I thought the decoration thing meant it was more likely to be the Obelix, but then what do I know?
I am just happy that you had a good time!;):):):)

A tree feller was here today and took the sick/diseased/snapped Birch tree down and cut it up into logs for me to burn next year.
At £250 it was a bit "spensive" for 2 hours work. But I didn't want to/couldn't do it.
Played shuffle with the Rangie & the Mini so the mini is trapped behind the Rangie for security purposes.
Was surprised to find a "hole" in the Mini floor (it cost me a whopping £12.95 remember). I noticed it because it was so Sunny and I swivelled the passenger seat fwd to get in the back. When I did that a tiny bright dot appeared in the carpet.
As you will all understand I had to put something through that hole and then look underneath to see where it came out.
Ok, I couldn't see the hole on the outside in plain view but I found it with my finger and it appears to be a vacated "bolt" hole (perfectly round) and not a rust hole (ragged). Maybe there was an exhaust hanger under there at some point. A thin 1mm metal patch and some CT1 will fix that I am sure. :D

The "official" method involves tapping into the bush with a 7/8 Whitworth tap, screwing in a bolt, heating the bush housing, gripping the bolt in a vice and whacking the crankcase half with a hide mallet. This final part is where the risk of damage is likely - especially if you only have one pair of hands, and pulling the bush out can increase the diameter of the housing and as there is only 1 thou of interference fit ------!
Yes the new bush is sintered bronze so it will get a soaking in hot oil. And freeze the bush before fitting, using an old cam shaft to guide / drift the bush in. After heating the housing with a hot air gun. Already have two new camshafts to fit.
