Re LPAs, I just had a look into it. with W who thought that a spouse automatically got it.
Hmm! Not so. Up till now we had only discussed it more along the lines of "Who do we trust to do this" than the nuts and bolts.
So this is speeding up our thinking about it.
Also discovered that we might have been able to do something about the neglect and financial misdoings of W's brother with regards to his mother, when she was alive.
Sadly tis too late now.
Stuff no one tells you until it's too late....

Yes it’s a bit eye opening when you look isn’t it.
We spent over £5k last year on wills, LPAs and getting property registered correctly. That was just for the UK.

The one ive heard was somit to do the marines ?? Cant remember now id need to think about it or you can tell us. ;)
There is the saying " Tell that to the marines." Meaning they might believe it but no one else will. The Marines for some reason were thought to be either thicker or more gullible than the normal matelot.

I often get is that all have you remembered the parts when i give the price and get told i am cheap :( probably why i dont run round in a new motor and have fancy hols abroad.
but i am happy in myself and enjoy what i do.
I am very grateful for your honest answer.
Since I posted the first price another bloke has come back to me quoting £85 plus VAT which seems a lot more reasonable, so he will get the business.
In the interim there has been a woman on our local Nextdoor bemoaning the fact that her water and sewage bills have trebled recently. she phoned her water provider and got told it is most likely a leak, so lots of peeps piled in telling her how to check and about whether she would have to pay for the leak if it is between the meter and her house, etc etc.
Long story short as she didn't seem to be able to find a leak in her house, and she thus assumed it was in the pipe from the meter, I did tell her to have a good look in her loos, to see if one was overflowing.
By then she had called out a plumber and he found the leak.
Well, the over flow, into a loo.
3 months of it.;)

Cheaper than digging up her drive though!

I'm glad you are happy in what you do. I wouldn't do your job for all the tea in China but I am so glad that there are peeps like you who do!
Mind people used to say the same about my job!
and you may not drive around in a new car or hol all fancy abroad, but you have your lovely Cortina Mk 1 to play with! :):):)

With W's serious op coming up it has crystallised our minds.
We are fed up of having to pay about £500 every time we change our wills and we haven't even started on the LPAs. And obvs we have the French place to think about. The last person we talked to about it at a solicitors told us stuff that we frankly thought she had got wrong, she was very adamant but she wasn't even a proper solicitor, some para-legal or whatever they are called. Still stiffed us for the same sort of money mind.
Tis a veritable minefield.
:(:(:(

He didn't need to destroy the roll, he could have just traced it out on the Izal!!

Sailors have pompoms well I dont believe it. 🤣 🤣 🤣
You must have seen them. right in the middle of the top of their flat hats.
Some say they are on there to help it hurt less when they bang their heads on beams or the ceilings in low roofed decks.
Red for an AB, blue and white for orficers apparently, I wouldn't know. I've only ever seen the red ones.
Brit sailors must have tougher pates!!!
