I've just been "told" what my combined Xmas and special birthday (70) present is going to be from W.
A new lappy.
Up to £1000.
But I have to choose it.
And I know flip all about them really. (Have only ever bought one which was secondhand and a rubbish one it turned out to be at that, it all works, except the batt is ...as a doornail and it is so slow it makes a snail look like a Ferrari, on startup anyway. It's an Acer thingy, not in the same room and CBA to get up and go and look at the make.)
All suggestions gratefully received and yes, thanks again, to at least one person who mentioned ones a while back.
I think she wants me to get a "good one that'll see me out".

Have contacted and sent pics to two plumbers so that they can quote etc.
Weather dry and fairly bright.
W off to have a capped tooth recapped, poor thing.
Have a good arternoon folks!
:) :) :)

I used 'er indoors MacBook for a couple of years after she got a new one. Old one was at least ten years old, possibly a lot more. When it finally stopped working I got a new one, same as her new one. MacBook Air. Superb tool. Cost about 1150 sovs. Wouldn't choose any other.

After yesterday's Ophthalmologist appointment and the emptying of my wallet I came home and ordered some "readers".
Opticianista fella recommended I get some +2.75 readers for working at my PC etc.
I bought a pair from an online shop yesterday PM. They arrived this morning by post.
Ruddy marvellous! Rimless lenses, and really comfortable. All for <£20 incl delivery and in a soft protective case.
Very impressed I am. www.tigerspecs.co.uk

The last eye test I had was probably the best and most comprehensive I ever had. Small, independent optician. Free prescription as I is of a certain age. Optician recommended a pair of varifocals, but wanted about 900 sovs for them. I got some online for about 90 sovs. Best specs I ever had, superb for driving. Before, I had specs which let me see the road ahead and read signs but not the dash. Suddenly I could see everything with such clarity. Need a new eye test and some more specs as the 3 pairs I have are getting too scratched now.

If you need a hand looking I can help.

Tbh for Stan Chromebook may be a way to go. My nana is a technophobe and she uses it quite well. Macs are ok for certain things but are quite overpriced in some ways.

M is total Apple.
I use I-pad and I-phone, but still use a windows laptop, Tried Ms laptop a bit and just cant get the hang of it, although I do like the I-pad for doing certain stuff I find the windows laptop for other stuff is better (for me).

Stan struggles with a modern phone 🤔.

All I could say is. @Stanleysteamer
dont need a huge Graphics card you dont play games.
Memory, maybe as sounds like lots of photos and docs to store. Although a Back up drive is good incase of failure.
To me just a reliable connection to internet and surfing. But also an easy way to connect to things like printers.

The next problem is.
Which windows version cos they have changed so much, and alot of stuff you have may not convert across (easily)
Or try and convert to Apple?

I am by no means an eggsquirt but I get on with what I have.
I have issues now and again but its usually sorted by restarting (cos I'm a bugger for just letting it go to sleep).

So I guess I am saying nobody can say what you need, until you tell us (those that know not me) what you do/want to do:).

That's my 1k of RAM used up:p

Been Varifocal for years, love them.
Did have a set that were too small and I viewed a straight line as a slight curve, It was annoying.

Used varifocal contacts when at work and they were absolutely fab.

And there sadly is me, allergic to Apple products. :(

...online retailer has e-mailed with exciting news!!!
Our new dining room chairs (qty(1)?) are being delivered next week to an address that is a total mish-mash of our actual address.
It is all a bit off-putting because the Qty (1) should say Set of 4 chairs qty(1).
They have swapped the town for the county and have the street & number twice.
How do these people manage to mangle such simple stuff?

ere go stan

start lookering at these

If I'd had to put money on it I was pretty sure you would recommend DELL so this is not a surprise.
I'll give it a bunch of lookerin at.

And for everyone's info so they can narrow down their thinking:
Yes, lots of photos, and I modify them with iPhotoplus.
quite a lot of documents,
need to do the odd spreadsheet, like to have two up at once,
NO gaming or Livestreaming,
Do prefer Windows as even though it has its foibles I seem to be able to use it quite well.

That's about it really.
But I'll say that and then in 10 minutes I'll think of other stuff.

I love my Samsung Notebook but it is falling apart physically, no working keyboard and bits around the screen falling off, plus if I am not careful the plug, which I have to tape in place, either comes out or connects badly, and as the battery has a life in nanoseconds.....

Mind you I am typing this on my Acer Aspire piece of poop, whose batt is completely dead, bought during Covid for £250 secondhand. From a shop too. Grr! But it works and I can do what I want on it, but I can switch it on, go and eat a 4 course meal, come back to it and it still hasn't all "come up".
Mind, me being me, that might be all my fault. I don't remember it being that slow on start up when I first got it and I haven't loaded any "apps" on it.
Hey ho!
