Do you mean the old ‘garden gun’ - i.e. a bit smaller than a .410?

Yep - I know.
They were commonly know as a ‘3 bore’, but nothing like it in the normal measuring sense (12 bore - 16 bore etc)
Quite rare now, and only really good for rats short range, like you say.

Dunno, it was just right for a ten year old, the 177 I had was a bit heavy, a lot longer barrel than the newer ones, my dad squeezed a bit of extra spring in it for more power
