Practical thing then, why not buy her a plant? We often do that for friends as then they can, well, plant it, watch it grow, enjoy its flowers etc etc?

But I have to say it is a bit surprising as almost all if not all of the wimnmins I have known get all wobbly kneed over a nice bouquet!!
Still, there is always jewellery!!!!!;););)

I am wondering why you are thinking of selling what is obviously such a nice vehicle. What do you see as being the problem with using it in the future? Is it simply a question of parking it or something?

Shame about the trade in, I get the feeling this is because used car values have fallen by some 4% recently and are predicted to continue to do so.

And of course there are all the nightmare stories about D3s and D4s busting their cranks.

Maybe the car you are looking at buying is nearly or even possibly below the perceived value of your trade in? I expect the traders are simply thinking it is a risk or will stay on the lot so long it becomes a "landmark".

Now and the next few months seems to be a good time to buy a secondhand car. Maybe if you could afford to buy one then wait until the market picks up then sell the D4?

Apart from the Skoda, what about a Suzuki Jimny?

I think @kevstar or his missus had one and others I know think they are pretty good.

Ending up not buying the Jimny as it had a 450kg towing limit or somit stupid like that.
The Honda crv was a lovely motor, 2.2D with timing chain & it was a 4x4 shame as the misses said she couldnt park it
in town as its too big & no-one leaves any space to park. I loved it & it drove superb with plenty power.

No! It's a 2012 so before that time. It's a pity it has to go as it has only done almost 107000 miles in total but once I reached 81 then I seem to be considered a huge risk and they increased my otherwise unblemished records by £301 per year. I consider paying £751.58 per year to drive fewer than 10,000 miles per year a bit OTT and I'm not going to get any younger so it will contiue to be 'weighted'.
Compare this with an equivalent insurance policy on my motorhome which is not yet two years old ( only a week mind you) with an insured value of £86,000 and cost a little over £600 per year. It's a con!

I love it! I'd like to keep it to the end BUT having reached the ripe old age of 81 the insurance companies seem to think that I am now a big risk on the road so have raised the policy to the astronomical amount of £751, as well as increasing every other compulsory contribution they can think of - I only do a max of 10,000 miles a year 'cos I use the other vehicle for holidays. I foresee that every year I continue to drive they are going to demand their pound of flesh. After shopping around the next lowest quote was £1200 followed by several at £1500 - including SAGA.

Its funny you should mention insurance. I was speaking to my Mum & Dad last night and he was saying his/theirs is due and they have increased it by £300, similar to you great record but just age going against him, hes 84-85 (I think). They only drive a little Toyota of no great value, its silly.

I would say shop around for a limited mileage policy but 10k may be too much, 5k might get 1.

Its a real shame you have to get rid and that P/ex prices are not helping.
I would suggest try to sell it privately first, (maybe on here) but its a hassle, I understand. Then go and get a huge discount when you slam a wad of cash on the salesman's desk for the new 1.

To late in the year the sap is rising in the tree could kill it eny how you can only cut 20% off what type of tree is it ?

This is both mad and frightening.
W will be 77 this year so we have that to look forward to. We are both with SAGA and find them very reasonable, but my car is a 2000 MY Disco 2 value, negligible, and hers is a Citroen Pluriel 2004 and again value probably less than £2k.

So yes, maybe getting a much cheaper older car will reduce your insurance. just hope the difference doesn't get made up with garage bills!.

Thinking about it re sap, yes of course that is also a problem and who wants a deaded tree next to their fence?

As mentioned afore, we cut the top 50% off the height of our fir tree and it survived fine. Can't remember what time of year we did it.

Towing according to tinternet was 2000 kg for a manual dropping to 1500 for an auto.
Then it ain't a Disco or a deeefendur!! The Honda I mean!

I took a look at D4's sold prices on fleasbay. They are going for not much more than scrap money, quite a few with broken crankshafts being sold for almost nothing. Top dealer selling prices are only a few grand.

I assume with mine that the very low mileage and full dealer servicing record together with the general very well cared for condition might have something to do with the Auto Trader's value was iro of £9750 if put up for sale there. I would not expect anything like that but I am not going to give it away.
I have now had a private cash offer of £6000 from someone who knows the vehicle well. I am happy with that.
