...that no call from the Motor guy today about my re-jigged 3-phase motor. :(
It is a shame but all good things and all that.

Herself was out in the garden today and I believe that she left the side-gate unsecured (something she has not admitted to yet) as she pottered between back & front gardens clearing up wind-fallen stuff and putting it in the garden recycling bin round the front. When she does this she leaves the gate open and puts a single house brick against.
Well, the wind took it and smashed it closed against the post.

She comes to me to say the gate’s broken. Well, well, well, it got all through last night ok because it was closed and latched shut, you leave it swinging in the wind and…..
I spent an hour demounting the broken gate, putting the bits back together, straightening the mangled hinges and re-hanging it.

It is a 1" thick solid T & G board gate and it weighs an awful lot. Carrying it to and fro for repair and rehanging has injured my shoulder. :(

Son's lady has had her bank account drained by hackers from India. :(
She's with Monzo bank who did not spot multiple online £15.99 transactions all from the same source. No 2-step authentication, no checks of any kind, money all gone.

I don't know how much it was in total but it was "everything" in her current account except the last small amount because they ran their scam that had taken out successive £15.99 amounts and it returned "Insufficient funds" when it got to below £15 balance so it failed.

I couldn't walk the door unfortunately so I had to lift it as close to my body as I could to get it sideways down the side of the house (narrow path). I have no idea what it weighs but its 6 foot by 3 foot and solid 1" matching redwood T&G so a bit like lifting a small breakfast table I guess. I'm feeling it now, but maybe it will be OK tomorrow. Thanks for the good thoughts. :)

Ooooft things we do then pay for it later, a chap today wanted gas bottles on his trailer as well as a 2 tonne pack of oxi bottles
in a frame. I got the manitou but he wanted to lift them. This lad is massive 6ft 6 n built like the side of a block of flats. He struggled to lift the bottle n I thought it must be really heavy, I jumped out n to help him & grabbed the bottle then lifted it
n chucked it on his trailer. He gave me a funny look n said wtf did you have for breakfast. 🤣

Saying that my nail gun packed in last weekend so put the reast of the sarking boards on by ye olde hammer technic lol
My elbow for the few days after was so so sore I couldnt lift a drink.

Thats mental about the bank I hope they get it sorted.

So sorry to hear about this, have often wondered what would happen in just that situation.
In France we often have to supply a FRENCH mobile phone number so we can be contacted by a driver of a delivery vehicle. I have in the past had a French mobile but I never use it and if you buy a pay-as-you-go card for it, you HAVE to keep using it or the number drops off, even if there is money on the SIM. If you let the money run out you are bugred and have to buy a new SIM. so in order to be able to get the delivery I give them an old number. ;)

HOWEVER, I would say that in your interests and to stay safe when travelling, it is still a good idea to get a cheap mobile phone, doesn't even need to have a camera on it, with something like a Tesco mobile phone card in it. It'll cost you peanuts and the money on the SIM will stay as it is. no need to keep topping it up. THEN you could take it with you purely when travelling and could use it if you break down, or have some other emergency, which is why both of us ever got our first mobile phones. TBH this is more or less all I carry mine for. At least my original Motorola. I leave it in the cubby box of the Disco.
Something like this.https://www.tescomobile.com/110-4g?color=blue&tariff=500mb&s_kwcid=AL!12341!3!!!!x!!&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAwbitBhDIARIsABfFYIIEw8Yf5zgtJ-nGOHTE5Lti4nlvIL0e8eI_DQZUod7n2jb3mxSoeuUaAhxPEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Cheap and cheerful.

(My other mobile I only got because we had to have proof of Covid vaccination when we went over there and wanted to go to restaurants, outdoor jazz concerts etc. Sadly this now has to be used when abroad to sanction payments of highish value with my Halifax card. Also a bit handy when travelling and staying in hotels, or with friends, with Wi-Fi.)

I think everyone knows how much I hate mobile phones and I admire your stance and your bravery in going sans-mobile in your everyday life! :):):)
Life as a single person is very different to life as it used to be with my late husband.

I used to have an old Samsung phone for the purposes you suggest but recently that has become 'extinct' - does not support 4 and/or 5. I still have a viable sim card but I refuse to buy a phone which I will never use except to keep the bank happy.

You having a nice steak thats been booted up n doon the kitchen like a haggy sack 🤣 🤣 njoy it haha
The things is, the burd who caused the problem won't be there in fact the guy I spoke to will be in charge, and after she left to "manage" the other restaurant on the top floor, the rest of the staff were as nice as pie. We've been going there for years, long before this burd started there, so the others, at least some of them, know us, and they treated us just as nicely as they always do.
We think the staff don't like her either!

But yes, if a customer is a real piece of work then all sorts of funny things can happen to their food before it hits their table!! We could swop stories all night but one of the funniest I heard of was of a chef who, once he heard a certain PITA customer was in and had ordered soup, stood on the worktop and pead into the soup pan, on the gas. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

you're just jealous cos for once I got a "free thung"! 🤣🤣🤣

Printers n I dont get along.
Some are OK, some are a right pain. I find the more often you use them, provided the paper isn't damp, the better they are.
But the printer cartridges aren't the problem, the cartridge supplier peeps weren't the problem, twas, as usual, the interface customer/website, that was unclear. Just like the visa website.

tis also my senility which doesn't help!;)

My Ma is a case in point. She is eighty, has no interest in tech or streaming or emails or online shopping or any of that hooha. She just doesn't work that way!
Her employer sends her emails to my address because she doesn't have one of her own, bank the same, utilities the same..
Is it unreasonable for outfits to do things the old fashioned way until these peeps shuffle off?
Your ma is 80.......her EMPLOYER????????:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

and no, it is not unreasonable.
