By the way, for anyone interested in things Hurricane, I have just finished rereading Force Benedict, by Eric Carter, all about the Hurricanes thatw ere taken to Northern Russia during the war to make the Arctic convoys possible. Many crated up to be built once they got them there.
Fascinating and deffo turned the course of the war. (ISBN 978-1-444-78514-2)

Also touches on Henri Broquet and the Russian oil scientists who had to develop their fuel catalysts to enable both the Huricanes and their aircraft to fly properly on the awful Russian petrol.
Will be remembered by those old enough, as Carbonflo, the much maligned fuel catalyst system sold to help peeps with older engines run them on lead free petrol and avoid valve-seat recession.
It did not get a good press (we wonder why, Big Oil) but they do in fact work, I bought one at cost off my neighbour who ran his own garage, fitted it to my B series engined kit car, which runs hotter than it should, back in the late 80s early 90s and it is still running with it now. No recession at all. ;)

Tain't obvious is it? Could be a two seater Spit. Maybe. The wingtips look right for a Spit.
Shame the camera focussed on the fence! The bliidy things WILL do that sort of thing!
Most definitely a Spitfire, it was meant to go with the Lancaster but they scrubbed the flight. I also filmed it taking off, here is a still:

Here is a pic taken of a "Spit" from the rear at much the same angle as the one in @My Old Landy's Pic

It clearly shows the wheel spats on the outside. (So it is in fact a Hurricane).
However on the same site
There are loads of other pics showing the spats on the inside. So i think a lot of people are getting confused between them.
so looks the same as the one he saw.
You could look to see where the rad(s) are, but they changed that as the Marks moved forwards too.
This site is dedicated to Spitfrie landing gear, and yes the gear on the one in MOL's pic does deffo look like that of a Hurricane.
Maybe there was one there too?

wonder if it depends on which Mark of Spit it was ?!!! :stars: :stars: :stars: :stars: :stars:

'Er indoors was babysitting for the grandkids this weekend. Seven year old grandottir had been sent home from school with a note from the teacher. Kids had been given a lesson on the differences between boys and girls. After which she made a Christmas card for her friend (dunno why at this time of the year). With a picture of a snowman ------ with a knob :banana::banana::banana:. Nice to know my descendants learn quick :p

Well they are snowmen..

I've just laughed so hard Mr W asked what was wrong

Tis the magic of flight, you have heard of 'a wing and a prayer' :)
In that book I mentioned there were accounts of pilots landing with bits missing off their props and even, of one Hurricane that was deliberately rammed into a Me110, and the pilot survived. Zakhar Sorokin. He had alreadu shot one down, taken a bullet in the thigh, run out of ammo so rammed another, he then crashlanded but was attacked on the ground by the crew of the shot down or rammed plane. He shot one, then fought the other who attacked him with a knife until he could bring up his Very pistol and kill him too. He then set off to walk for 7 days over the frozen tundra. He got to a village, his mates came to pick him up, he had both feet amputated due to frostbite and was fitted with prosthetics. He went on to shoot down a further nine German aircraft and got the OBE awarded by George VI.;););)

Told you it was a good book!:):)
